In general, I see quite the opposite trend. Some conventions remain strong and continue to hit new records and sell-outs. For instance, Gamescom has recovered after its 2-year virtual format due to Covid-19. Similarly, the Tokyo Game Show reached 243,000 visitors, compared to 138,000 in 2022. Some cosplay shows are also expanding.

The Covid-19 restrictions from 2020-2022 canceled most events, but the recovery numbers indicate that the demand for such events is very high.

The vibe at these in-person events is so strong that virtual or remote alternatives can't compete with it.

I really hope they don’t go extinct, tho tbh I have never been at one! I am like one of these unique extroverted introvert type people lol but on my bucket list was to go to E3 so I was gutted when that closed down!

I don't think so, especially for ones tied to certain games like Eve Fanfest and CitizenCon for StarCitizen are going to go on for many years to come, because they're a way for players and prominent content creators to meet each other and the devs and get to see what's in store for the future.

Other's like Blizcon I think might die out as companies like Activision keep showing their disdain for fans and their never ending greed, ticket sales and interest will drop. Especially since they already cancelled 2024.

Tldr some events tied to companies known for anti-consumer practices will probably die out, but those with a well established and loyal following will probably be around for a while.

Not really gonna count platform specific reveal shows and such as those will probably always have enough of an interest to justify running them. Though even that might depend on how much of a loss companies take from making silly decisions.

I can't really think of any other developer specific conventions apart from Blizzcon (and I guess Mine-Con - if that's still a thing)

I think scaling down would help if the fanbase isn't growing but their legacy franchise can probably sustain them for the inevitable

Yeah, if I remember tickets for the last Blizzcon were absolutely insane, so people are probably loosing interest in it and they apparently don't have any big to announce so it sounds like as you said they may be starting to scale it back

I think they will The biggest gaming event E3 died so I don't really think there is a market anymore for them. However this was an industry only event that was really for investors and press/ those related to the industry. Nowadays big releases are better performed online where companies can have full control of the broadcast rather than on-stage where you get awkward silences, people shouting out (thanks to the guy called Keanu 'classy') and technical glitches/ hiccups. Events that are not corporate and can be attended by anyone however I think will continue as a networking and place to show off to consumers such as PAX
