Wowzer. Probably give it a go, I reckon.

That feeling when a great game gets dlc and you are still lost in the woods getting sniped by lobsters. Still love the game just not good at it.

Bit OT and maybe controversial, but I'm not keen on Eurogamer reviews these days. They all seem to be from outsourced/freelance reviewers. In the past, correct me if I'm wrong, but it used to be the Eurogamer team themselves reviewing them. Over time you got get a feel for how your taste in game aligned to the different staff reviewers, so if person x liked a game and scored it high, there was a good chance you would too. Similar if they rated it badly but you could see most previous games they didnt like, you did then it might still be one for you. You build up a bit of a connection with their personality and the team/company as a whole in a way and they used to reply to comments a lot as well and answer questions people had about things that weren't covered or to expand on them.

Now, no two reviews seem to be from the same person, making it impossible to do this anymore, or compare scores from one game to the other. Their scores have become meaningless to me and are no different to any random persons opinion I can look for.

As far as I'm aware, they've more or less always used freelancers. In fact, many of the reviewers that I suspect were considered to be staff were actually freelancers, like Edwin and Malindy. I'm biased because I used to work there, but I think their reviews have always been good reads even if I disagree. They're definitely a bit contrarian but I quite like hearing those different perspectives

Interesting, Maybe I'm just remembering wrong then looking back with rose tinted glasses and all that!

I'm sure I remember seeing the same names coming up time and time again, and if there was a big name game, you were always kinda waiting to see who had got the job to do it. Like the Destiny review recently, the persons last review was in 2019 for the site, which was the animal crossing mobile game. Just seems really odd to me when if you look back the site used to be obsessed with destiny for example with the running joke of "another destiny article" and all that. Now its covered by someone who hasn't posted on there since 2019. It doesn't really give me coherent narrative of what the sites staff thinks of the ending of the game after playing and covering it for 10 years. I know this probably sounds daft and like I say, maybe I just miss the peak years when I used to lap up anything Eurogamer/gamernetwork.

I've been playing it for the last week or so for some freelance guides work, and I won't spoil anything, but all I will say is it is hard. Even if you reckon you're overleveled, trust me, you won't be. You will have your butt kicked, repeatedly. Although there is a very efficient rune farm not far from the start of the DLC!
