ffs, as much as a love gamepass, i really dont think it or microsofts xbox everywhere strategy is good for the industry as a whole, i worry they are willing to crater the industry as they have deep enough pockets to be the last one standing (if they were in number 1 spot this generation i do not think they would be doing what they are doing or pushing the narrative that theres no growth in the console market just now etc etc)... Also I need to say im not some console warrior or PlayStation fanatic i have all the consoles (and PC), hell I've actually probably got more xbox's set up right now than anything but i want a strong industry so us gamers get the best experiences and value, i think we are a fair bit away from that just now.
But that being said, what is the solution for Xbox to grow without trying to drown everyone else? I think they should either cuz this gen short and launch their next gen machine early like the 360 did, also differentiate the hardware enough so its not almost identical to PlayStation (i thnik gaming is way more exciting when each platform is different hardware wise like think back to Gen 5 or even Gen 6 for an example (sixth generation include consoles from four companies: the Sega Dreamcast (DC), Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2), Nintendo GameCube (GC), and Microsoft Xbox.)
OR
Drop a dockable handheld like teh steam deck and which would work well with gamepass i guess since they are absolutely hell bent on going all digital anyways.
AND for both these approaches, make good games, the xbox 360 was fantastic due to having a massive variety of games and had an edgy and cool vibe to it, not the bland box of games we have these days. Unlike what Phil Spencer said i completely disagree with his point saying making good games isnt enough, it is what it is all about and Xbox has been lacking in that space the past few years big time. Also drop multi-platform first party games, remember when Xbox 360 boxes said on them "Only on Xbox 360", we need that competitive spirit back, if they believed in the quality of their games, which would translate into the ability to shift consoles, they would do this and not feel the need to flog "ok" games as wide and as far, Exclusives are a motivator to buy into a system, Xbox is massively diluting that.
Anyways i could go on but i need a coffee lol, remember console warriors are the worst, they help nobody so lets have some good constructive chats! I am away to download some more Xbox 360 games before the store closes later on this month!
