Yo! Attending WASD 2024 turned out to be even more amazing than I expected, largely because I had the chance to meet the team of the studio behind Alien Hominid — The Behemoth. Not only did their quirky art style become a hallmark of Newgrounds, but this game was also the one that pulled me into playing Flash games when I was young. It was an honest for me to meet them personally. So nostalgic! 🥲

I've picked a certain developer for a very specific reason...

I was walking between halls, in my way down the slope to check out the curious selection when a young student comes over to me and starts talking about his game and are work.

He was obviously nervous but he was trying and from almost all experiences I have had I am very happy he did.

The way he did his art and textures where all layed out in folders with the whole process explained.

After a few minutes of chatting I said I'd give it a go. 20 minutes later I had a crowd around me as I passed though each puzzle room.

All I can say is congratulations to the guy for going completely outside of his comfort zone and talking to me. Well done!

I spoke to Tom on the Barclay's booth, about his really popular game Dead Meat, which seemed to have a big queue every time I went near it. I ended up needing to book an appointment to play the game!

I was able to talk to and give feedback to the devs of dead meet and green again. They are really great games but I feel are missing a few things to make them amazing.

We spent quite a lot of time at the booth of "Birdy Island" in this picture you can see TheGreatestBanana playing, he actually sat there for around 30 minutes, playing the game, the Dev (not sure I asked him name) challenged him to find bugs and oh boy did he, like a lot, he was so impressed, he gave Banana his card and said "contact me, ill end you a copy and you can keep bug testing it"

I then asked him, where he actually got the idea for the game and he replied with "Well you know when you're at the pub with friends and you're drunk and then you start getting into stupid conversations? Well, we started talking about how many times a bird has crapped on you, so the next day, I decided, hey, a game, lets do it, and did it"

Which I thought was bloody hilarious lol

Haha, I love that. Really invigorating to attend an indie-focused show and see so many simple and creative game ideas!

That's cool 🙂 Did you get to spend much time chatting? Was there anything that really stuck with you?

I’ve been a big fan of The Behemoth since their flash games on NewGrounds!

And I think it is the perfect time to talk to them about it since their first game was Alien Hominid now being updated and released as Alien Hominid Invasion.

I want to know why they are going back to Alien Hominid - was there a feature that they were unable to implement or execute on when they made the console versions?

I’d also ask them:

  • Do you think there is still a future for browser games? Especially since the death of flash games and rise of early access on Steam and Ich.Io

  • Are they going to remake their other popular titles like Castle Crashers?

  • Why do they release on Sony’s consoles so much later than Microsoft and Nintendo’s consoles (this is from the bitter Sony fanboy in me)

I kind of want a shirt with the booth pattern on it 😄

My main goal is to speak with all of them as this is my first time attending WASD and want to get immersed over the next few days.

I checked the attendance list and Twitter to know which devs and publishers will be attending 👀.

I talk to several of them, to help create a connection between us and see how we could work together:

Devolver

Wired Productions

Team Junkfish

Hey @Reyiell, welcome to Just About and hope these chats went well! It looks like you've left a normal reply here; unfortunately we're only able to award bounty submissions made using the 'submit to this bounty' button. Please use that in future as we'd hate for you to miss out!
