They might have wanted to differentiate their platform from X/Twitter, but given Instagram is so fundamentally tied to hashtags it's strange for Threads to not support them.
Well apparently that's all about to change!
It's hard to picture an internet without the use of hashtags nowadays, but are they a helpful way to connect related topics or are they spammed to spread irrelevant content far and wide?

They can be misused indeed but they are also a good way to search for posts you might be interested in.
Also I think it's a common thing in gaming to mark posts about a new update as #spoiler and then people who didn't get that far yet can block that hashtag to avoid spoilers.
