I've just got my hands on a Shure SM7b for my studio vocals and a Shure SM58 for live work. I'm super excited to have a play with them over the weekend. Top of my list is to find the best tool for broadcast EQ for exactly the reason you describe above. Something OBS-related seems like the obvious route but I'd love to find a really lightweight EQ that just runs in the background on video calls.

Any advice welcome!

I actually do ALL of my EQ with my mixer before my voice even hits OBS! I use a Mackie ProFX6v3 and I truly love the combo of it and the SM58.

That makes sense. I used to have a Behringer XENYX 502S for recording but I sold it when I stopped doing multi-channel recording. Do you run anything else through your mixer other than the one mic? Do you also have a pre-amp?

I use a Scarlett 2i2 for my input now which is a great interface but it doesn't have separate bass, mid and high levels. I'm trying to avoid any extra desk clutter, hence looking for a software option.

Sometimes I run the game through the mixer if it’s narrative-heavy and I want on the fly volume boosts without clicking off and messing with digital sliders in OBS but for the most part it’s just the mic. No additional pre-amp either, the Mackie is a one stop shop.

Yeah I feel ya, the Mackie has quite the desk presence and my cats loooove stepping on the dang buttons while I’m live and giving me a panic lmao.

I have a Behringer too (can’t remember the model off the top of my head), but only having gain and volume wasn’t enough control for me.

Um, for me, I've always had quite a simple attitude to this, I have always liked the way I sounded and when I have the flu, I sound sexy as hell (my wife says so, so it's true) but this being said, I try to not worry about my voice and more focus on what the content is and how I'm explaining it.

I find it's easier to think in that way.
