Believe it or not, this doesn't have anything to do with the currently live Bounty. YouTube has a pilot program where you upload 3 thumbs which are displayed to different users and you are shown the analytics on them to better gauge what users click-through with. Even before I knew about that, I noticed one creator I enjoy seemed to have magically swapping thumbs. So I thought "is there something to that?"
I've been experimenting with it for about a month now and it turns out (for me at least) there is something to that. When I put up a video, I always make a slightly to moderately different thumbnail to change to after about two days. Quite literally every time, I've seen a sudden influx of views when I do.
Has anyone experimented with this? I'm not sure if it is just changing the demographic by changing the thumb, or if your video is "re-pushed" after doing it, but there is definitely something to this practice of thumb-swapping.
