Because the Stellar Forge (galaxy generation engine) uses real space data it coincidentally was right about the real life star system Trappist-1. Frontier subsequently updated the in game system to become Trappist once the discovery was made public.

Great fact! Welcome to Just About Elite!

V

Thargoids are split into 2 separate factions to our knowledge one being very timid and explorers just like us and the other very aggressive and attacking us

B

Mitterand Hollow, a hard-to-catch Tourist Spot.

In the early days of Elite Dangerous, an error in the game's Code caused a system's moon to orbit its parent planet at a ridiculous Speed (876 km/s). A total Solar Eclipse is visible from the moon's surface every local day for 10 seconds.

The community found the bug amusing at best. Frontier then one day patched the moon's orbit speed and the community was outraged at the fact the Funny Moon bug was gone. The outcry caused that much of a stir, Frontier Reversed the patch and the moon can be found in-game today.

This is exactly the sort of trivia we were hoping for. Thank you and welcome aboard!

Did you know that if engaging in combat in #EliteDangerous and your ship canopy is blown out - you cannot land on a planet and get out? even if you have the Odyssey expansion...

Well if you did know - then Good For you...If you didn't then like me you Didn't Know That!

Something to think about when the Thargoids

Elite Dangerous's ingame universe is set exactly 1286 years in the future, paired to the current date. However this means that leap years occur at the wrong times, offset by two years.

This discrepancy was lampshaded with a one-day ingame event on the 29th of February, 3302. Ricardo Bentonio, a conspiracy theorist, issued an appeal for aid in proving that the day was an anomaly that signalled the imminent destruction of reality. He met his targets, but as noted by the the resulting article, "as of the time of writing, the universe continues to exist".

F

Did you know, you can find Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 in Elite Dangerous, as part of the game’s tribute to the real-life spacecraft? Both spacecraft are located in the Sol system, where they are orbiting far from the main star. Here’s how you can find them:

Steps to Find Voyager 1 and 2 in Elite Dangerous:

Unlock the Sol System:

You must be allied with the Federation to get a permit to visit the Sol system, as it’s a permit-locked system. You can achieve this by completing Federation missions and earning the rank of Petty Officer with the Federation.

Enter the Sol System:

Once you have the permit, jump into the Sol system. This is where both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are located.

The FSS Scanner has allowed both Voyager probes to be quickly and easily found. They are treated as signal sources and can be detected when focusing the FSS Scanner on low-frequency signals, or you can scan the nav beacon.

Voyager 1 is located approximately 2,087,725 Light Seconds from the Sol star (the main star of the system), in the direction of the system's outer edge.

Voyager 2 is located approximately 1,617,299 Light Seconds from the Sol star, also towards the system's outer edge.

They will show as "Ancient Probes" on the navigation panel

Tips:

Keep an eye on your fuel level, as travelling to the far reaches of the Sol system requires long Supercruise travel.

Patience is key—flying in Supercruise for such long distances can take several minutes, so make sure you’re prepared for the journey.

Finding the Voyager spacecraft in Elite Dangerous is a fun challenge and a piece of space exploration history preserved within the game.

O

The Thargoid are a hierarchical species divided into multiple subgroups; All Thargoids encountered by humanity are drones, which don't appear to have any form of free-will and are instead linked to a hive mind that is controlled by a single Thargoid Queen.

Thargoid Queens and Princesses—that simply being a Queen that has not yet formed its own colony—are thought to be extremely intelligent, and are telepathically interwined with their drones in such a way that they can effectively experience all that every single drone in its hive is experiencing. Despite so, Thargoid Queens consider their drones expendable and are little, if at all, bothered by the loss of one.

H

Thargoids are the one of two alien races. Both of them ends in the war.

F

I recently discovered this, and it was also new to my squadron, so I thought I would share it - although you cannot enter ground ports on foot, you can enter them with your SRV. Once you are in range of the port with your SRV, select the port from your contacts to "request to board". Once granted, you will be directed to drive into a small garage. From there, you can board your ship and either disembark in the port Hangar or launch from the landing pad.

K

New Fact:

Something I didn't know for a long time - on planetary ports (the older ones, from Horizons that look like circular cities) you can actually disembark to your SRV while docked. Use the bottom panel to deploy your SRV and drive out from a garage!

Original Fact (already posted):

Miterland Hollow is a small moon, found in the Epsilon Indi system. What makes it notable, is that it's orbit is blazingly fast. It takes around a minute and a half to fully orbit it's parent planet, 'New Africa."

Despite being considered a bug, it was not fixed due to players enjoying such a fun, stand-out, curiosity.

Heat sink launchers not only cool your ship down, they also restore some power to your weapon capacitor, about 2 MW/second, allowing you to fire your weapons more often. This aspect also helps commanders fight Thargoid interceptors more efficiently.

T

When you use mining lasers and you run out of weapon power, your ship will start to overheat. Using a heat sink in this situation alleviates the problem as well (for a time).

1

if you are fully dedicated to thargoid combat as a beginner, make sure to enable yes or yes on both the X axis and the Y axis yaw and the keyboard as roll, mouse sensitivity at 30%, mouse relative to 35% and dead zone at 35% and you could make an orbital displacement around the interceptor keeping your sights on the petals with little or effort and all without disabling assisted flight

D

Fun facts! (Requires Odyssey content)

When on foot you can wave at your ship to dismiss it.

When on foot you can applaud your ship to make the lights go on and off.

There are a lot of recognizable brands within Elite, but quite a few are actually based on brands we have today, just slightly changed in name (likely for copyright reasons). A couple examples of this are the original manufacturers of the Python, Whatt and Pritney, which in today's age is Pratt & Whitney, known for their aircraft engines and auxiliary power units, as well as the manufactures of the Federal lineup of ships, Core Dynamics, with an equally as federal real-life counterpart being General Dynamics, known for their Aerospace and Defense contracting with the United States Department of Defense. While these are only 2 examples, there are many more easter eggs like this within Elite's universe!

A

Commanders pass in and out through the mailslots of Coriolis stations hundreds of times a day but many don't realise that if you fly up close to the corners of these massive cuboctahedral star ports it's actually possible to fly in and around the superstructure. In the following video I take you on a flight assist off tour of one such station - Artemis Lodge in the Celaeno system.

Long time ago when people were just starting out Elite Dangerous during the times when PVP and Player Groups ran wild. Many player groups adopted a new way to PVP called "Anchor Wings" where 4 people in Anacondas would drop into a system with people they had Interdicted going into a Instance of space. After they dropped trying to fight off the Fighters or other players trying to destroy them the anaconda pilots would leave there wing only to reinvite the 3 other 3 man wings in Supercruise. Once this happened instead of 4 Anacondas it became 16 Ships total against 1 wing of players. It was used a ton in the Pirate Groups Smiling Dog Crew or The Code. On top of the Anchor wings for PVP many people during those times would make Trade Routes so people who were struggling to make money would go off those routes and rake in tons of credits such as the "Silk Road Trade Route". We didn't have prospector or Collector limpits during that time so if we did any trade it was through cargo scooping... And let me tell you I hated using the Type 9 trying to scoop 300 tons worth of Diso Corn.... UGH.

C

You need to gain 486 650 000 credits via exploration to go from aimless to Elite. With an average of 20 000 000 cr per hours (as calculated in TheYamiks video) it means you need a little more than 1 days of game to get it.

Remember that in order to get that amount, you need to have a dedicated ship to explore, with the good loadout, wich gonna take you additionnal time and credits.

F

It's impossible to start a bar fight in the bar at any of the stations. Every great Sci-Fi has a bar fight scene, so there really should be bar fight mechanics in Elite Dangerous. But, alas, there is no way to get into a bar fight. So sad. You cannot even punch while walking around a station, which is actually a little weird, right? You can punch walking around anywhere else, but what stops you from throwing a punch while walking around a station? We have magnetic boots, but perhaps our gloves have really strong magnets in them too? There really should be bar fight mechanics in a Sci-Fi game that has a bar.

F

Inside Elite Dangerous there is a group called The fuel rats, a collective of players with a singular purpose: To prevent players who run out of fuel (and sometimes otherwise get stuck out in the Black) from blowing up. They are players who make it their mission to rescue those who find themselves stranded in the dark, started in 2015 where back in time they where just a few who started the initiative from the Forum and now they have more than 20k members and made more than 150k rescues. They are all volunteers with the will to help other people, they dont ask for anything in return for their service

September 20th, 2024 will be the "Elite" series' 40th anniversary.

C

Did you know that you don't need your SRV to get most surface materials or thargoid/guardian relics? If you have a sharp eye, you can equip a ship with a normal beam laser to break off pieces, and use your cargo scoop to collect them. This works best in small ships such as the Dolphin or Imperial Courier.

S

If you fly in the sun you will die in game.

Q

Many believe you cannot collect bounties in anarchy systems or that you cannot collect bounties for an anarchy faction.

This is and has always been incorrect.

Similarly it was thought you could not change the state of a nav beacon, but you can.

The jist is never take another cmdrs word without proof.

And my fav, we took thargoid prisoners and stole their fsd tech and we shot them and killed them first

All they ever did was protect and farm their gardens on planets seeded by them before humanity even existed.

J

Despite being invaded by the targoids at the moment, it was in fact us that start the conflict.
By deploying a bomb to a targoid queen and so killing it, thargoids may have gone a little bit angry at humans.

The reason of the bombing is still mysterious as we don't know who wanted to start the conflict but we know who did it, Jameson, a skilled pilot that was greatly reward for a "delivery" mission that turns to be a bomb delivery. His ship were also sabotage to be defective after the bomb launch making it crashed somewhere, Jameson didn't survived and a station was renamed to honored this great pilot, who got manipulated.

This station has been designed to help great pilots by provinding all ships and modules available in game, and also providing a guardian tech broker that let's player unlock nice anti-targoids guns, modules and fighters jets.

Maybe one day, peace will be found but we don't know if it will last, in fact we're in the 3rd thargoid war and they seems more and more determined to kill or harvest us all...

O

Additional trivia on this: Commander Jameson was the only playable character in the original 1984 game.

The barnard loop is the biggest nebula in the galaxy, but hard to navigate for players, because lots of systems around it extend a sphere or permit locked systems, because the high thargoid presence.

https://map.canonn.tech/route_uia.html Its the big zone of blocked white spheres, and open black spheres.

This zone is know in real life as the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, and dated from a Supernova that explode 2 Millions years ago:, with Barnard's Loop the biggest of the nebulas.

The interesting part, is that Guardian live nearby, around the Gamma Velorum star (permit locked white zone inside the blue guardian sphere), and that war happen in a similar timeframe of 2Millions years ago.

Lot of start in the zone got displaced by the supernova shockwave, with AE Aurigae, Mu Columbae and 53 Arietis the closest to the explosion, and the ones with the fastest speed, now at 600Ly, 900Ly and 1200Ly from the origin.

We don't know how the guardians won the thargoid war, except form using his own robots, the Constructs. But if the Thargoids have a foothold in the nebula, the supernova could have been the weapon that destroyed their headquarters or home world. And could explain why the constructs, once developed conscience, saw the "nox xenophobic and paranoid" guardian masters a menace to the life in the galaxy.

Now, 2 Million years before, thargoid returned to the SAME systems they once colonized, but because the shockwave, the empire is fragmented and produce small bubbles or presence, the permit locked system.

Exploration of the 3 runaway stars, that lack permit locked spheres, don't show any relevant info. All of them lack planets or moons, and only one have a secondary failed star as companion. Maybe this explain why this stars don't generate his own permit locked sphere, but don't confirm or deny the statment about Supernovas as definitive guardian weapon.

If this superweapon exist, pray that the guardian survivor don't return, and that another Wanna-Be-Salvation scientist discover this weapon.

Did you know: it is possible to see a representation of your ship when approaching a Thargoid sensor.

Indeed, Thargoid sensors emit a sound that, once decoded, can reveal a 2D drawing of the ship you are in at the time of the scan.

Elite Dangerous is actually the 4th game in the series, which dates back to 1984 with the original Elite (written by David Braben and Ian Bell) for the BBC Microcomputer.

That original game fitted within the available 32kilobytes of RAM in that early 8 bit machine and featured revolutionary (for the time), vector graphics with hidden line removal, and a procedurally generated universe.

The first sequel, Frontier Elite 2, was written in 1993 for 16 bit machines such as the Commodore Amiga, Atari ST and early PCs and attempted to simulate the entire galaxy on a single floppy disk.

1995 saw the introduction of Frontier First Encounters, which was released only for 32 bit PCs.

Much of the lore of those original games is referenced in Elite Dangerous, not least many of the famous ship types, notably the Cobra Mk3. The origins of the Federation, the Empire and Alliance can be traced back to these early games as well. Of course, dive deeper and you'll find the legends as well such as the Dark Wheel and Raxxla... but that's a story for another day.

CC

The music during the auto docking and takeoff sequence in Elite Dangerous is from "The Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss II. It is an homage to the rather lengthy docking sequence in the movie, "2001: A Space Odyssey" during which this song was played.

A

In the Elite world, Mars has been terraformed and become a habitable planet, the terraforming of Mars is one of the first attempts of mankind to enter a space age.

I remember reading somewhere that the first attempt at terraforming Mars was unsuccessful, and by that time humans had discovered hyperspace travel technology. Since then, the Mars terraforming project was suspended until the Federation lost the war to the Empire. Mars was finally terraformed in 2291.

Another early attempt of the Space Age is the Generation Ship Project. These ships are huge prototypes of megaships equipped with artificial ecosystems. They are designed to travel a long distance in the universe and find a new home for humans. These ships were not equipped with FTL travel technology, which means it might take thousands of years to reach their destinations. The first generation ship was launched at the end of 21 Centuary (which means some of us might be able to see it lol).

You can find these generation ships in the game and download the datalog to read their history. Unfortunately, most of the generation ships you can find in the game have a tragic end. Most of them didn't reach their destination because of space pirates, a strange virus, a crew revolt or even an unexplained supernatural signal. But there is one exception, the Atlas. This ship successfully reached its destination, but found out that it could not be stopped due to a manufacturing problem, they were going to miss the destination. The Chief Engineer decided to launch all the escape pods so that the crew member could land on the planet. And he had to sacrifice himself to stay on the Atlas to make sure all the pods were launched successfully. This proved to be a great success, with almost every escape pod landing without a hitch.

Writing down his thoughts as a father (yes, his wife was pregnant at the time) in his final log, the Chief Engineer said: "My kid's not going to grow up in some tin can, floating aimlessly in space, They're going to grow with dirt between their toes, and sky above their head." Those words really touched me a lot, since as a Chinese, we attach great importance to the word "home", and only the space under the clear blue sky can be regarded as a "home". If you have watched the Chinese Sci-fi movie "The Wandering Earth" you will understand why people in that movie will try their best to drive the whole Earth as a space craft. In that movie there's a very famous caption "我相信,会再次看到蓝天,鲜花挂满枝头" (I firmly believe, we will see the blue sky, the flowers hanging on the branches again.). The idea of this caption concides with the log of the Chief Engineer.

If you have the chance, try visit the Atlas. Trust me, the story worth listening.

My favorite is the fact humanity first had a proprietary fuel for Faster-than-light travel but the formula was lost forever and set back humanity hundreds of years. Then thanks to thargoid research, we stole their technology to create hyperspace jumping. Which is what set off the latest and rapid expansion of humanity.

You cannot take a High Resolution screenshot using Alt + F10 whilst playing in Open Play unlike in Private Group and Solo mode. In Open Play you can only take a Standard Resolution screenshot with F10.
Many are already aware of this however most do not know the reason why...
The reason for this is because as the 16 mini captures are curated for the High Rez image it has a time slowing effect on the Commander taking the capture and was found to be used for unfair advantage by player in PvP battles in the early days of Elite Dangerous. So the option has removed as an option from the Open Play Mode ever since

If you recall your ship on a planet, but it's too hilly to land on the planet (mostly due to the ship's size) it will not land, but instead it will hover close to the ground still allowing you to board it with your SRV.
