Happy holidays, commanders! There's not long to go until jolly Saint Nick loads up his sleigh and tours the cosmos doling out gifts to all you pilots on the nice list (and coal to anyone who helped the Thargoids). To get everyone in the festive spirit, we asked the Just About Elite Dangerous community to produce some Christmassy machinima videos, and just like Santa Claus himself, they delivered - we're sure yule love them!
LCU's dazzling duet
If you love a good Christmas song, then we're starting off strong with our first-prize winner, LCU No Fool Like One, who has put together an honest-to-goodness music video. Cutting between snowy landscapes of Wregoe NX-L d7-59 A 2 and their ship in orbit around it, LCU is joined by Kaytee Khaos for an excellent Elite-themed cover of Baby It's Cold Outside.
LCU says that "despite improvements to workflow this was still a ton of work to do", but there’s no doubt that it paid off!
Block9's Santa stories
Block9 is in second place with this lengthy machinima video, in which his crew gather to share tales of their strange and funny encounters with Santa, each more ridiculous than the last:
XCezor Claus
We hope you've been good this year, because if you have, then you might be getting a visit from our third-prize winner, XCezor Claus. In their submission, we're treated to some footage of them making the rounds, delivering presents… and a shock to the unsuspecting denizens of one icy world.
"Have you been good this year? Actually, it doesn't matter, because you will get gifts from Santa Claus XCezor anyway. Only the information that you were naughty may... shock you."
CmdrTravisRobicheaux's merry Mandalay
CmdrTravisRobicheaux has come up with a festive ode to the Mandalay. Set to a jangly Christmas tune, Travis's song calls for pilots to "explore the stars in a Mandalay" while himself flying around a nearby star, cockpit replete with Christmas lights and snowman bobbleheads:
LCU's 12 Days of Exobiology
As a bit of a bonus, we're back with LCU who, in last year's Noël number, graced us with their 12 Days of Christmas parody - the 12 Days of Exobiology. Recounting the various plants they scanned on each day of Christmas, we're treated to a run down of sinuous tubers, recepta umbrux, and of course, a cordyceps in a brain tree:
Whether you'll be blasting LCU's Christmas bangers or exploring the stars in your own festive Mandalay, let us know how you're spending the holidays in Elite Dangerous. Whatever you're up to, we hope you have a very merry Christmas (or winter break)!
