One of Empyreal's coolest ideas is the cartogram system: hand-designed levels with randomised elements (like bosses) which drop from ordinary enemies. They're key to your progression, and divide the game into handy bite-sized chunks. For this reward, we want to test your mastery of Empyreal's combat, character building, and cartograms!
Simply select any cartogram in your inventory and finish it as quickly as possible, showing us the entire journey - including the cartogram overview in Maria Thornton's lab - on video.
Here are the rules:
Your video must begin in Maria Thornton's lab in the HUB, showing us all the overview details of the cartogram you select.
We'll start counting your time as soon as you load into the cartogram. We'll stop timing your run as soon as you land the finishing blow on the cartogram's final boss (we'll look for the exit portal to spawn to confirm it's the final boss, so be sure to include this in your video). The top prizes will go, in order, to the quickest times. Simple!
Videos must be recorded in the full version of Empyreal, not the demo version (the demo contains endgame loot that makes it too easy to overpower yourself vs early cartograms).
Otherwise, there are no rules. To optimise your run, you'll want to tailor your character build to the cartogram's enemies, and find a cartogram with the most straightforward layout. But you can overlevel yourself, too - as long as you do it through hard work in the full version of the game rather than the free gear in the demo - and if you can find any, you're even welcome to use skips or glitches. It's a speedrun, after all.
