I'm not much into PvP, but I really liked the concept of the Alligator. Its mix of missiles and drones seems great to me; sustained DPS with the drones to set up the missiles for even more damage.
However, I designed this fit to defend the ESS against cruisers and battlecruisers. Although the Alligator is somewhat slower compared to other ships, it has the advantage of drone damage. This allows, while your opponent focuses on escaping or moving away from your range, the drones will gradually catch up and start applying damage. Even if they try to destroy your drones, it will take a considerable amount of time thanks to their bonuses. Thus, you'll have time to analyze your next move or, why not, make a tactical retreat if necessary (sometimes it's better to escape to fight another day).
If you have any advice, I'd be happy to receive it and try to improve it a bit.
