Farming fan fiction! Write a story and make a video of it

Farming is more than a profession; it's a way of life. More than that: it's the way of life, the one that enabled early humans to settle in one place rather than wander around hunting and gathering. Think of how many tales worth telling must've happened in and around farms over the millennia. We'd be remiss not to run a fan fiction contest in their honour.

For this reward, please do the following:

1. Write an original story set on any of your farms in Farming Simulator 25. There's a minimum word count of 500, but please don't exceed 1,500 words. If your story is (much) longer than that, it may be disqualified regardless of quality.

2. Create a video in which you read your story aloud to us, and set the video to some footage from FS25. The closer the footage fits your story, the better, but it's fine if it's just some pleasant farming videos to watch - we're not looking for full-on Machinima!

3. We strongly prefer human narration, but if you're shy, we'll allow AI voiceover on your video. As always, you may not use AI to write your story - please paste the text of your story here on the site when you submit to help our checks.

Your story can be about whatever you want, but if you fancy some inspiration, here are some thought-starters - it won't prejudice your entry if you use these, modify them, or come up with something entirely new:

• When Grandpa Walter handed me the farm, he had one piece of advice: "don't plough the north field"

• They said the chickens were acting strange because of the heat... but I knew better

• My neighbour is my biggest rival in farming - and the rivalry ends tonight

• I grew the world's largest potato... and now they won't leave me alone

A bit of flash-fiction advice: often, aspiring authors of flash fiction fall down by trying to write an entire story, complete with beginning, middle, and end. Flash fiction doesn't need to do that, and is usually better when it doesn't. You can leave questions unanswered, mysteries unsolved, and readers wanting more. Sometimes, it can even be a single scene!

This is a time-limited reward with a podium finish which will only close and be judged on Thursday, May 29, 2025. The top prizes will go to the best stories with the best delivery (in case of a tie, the quality and fitness of the accompanying video may be considered, too).
