Arcadian is the story of a man and his two teenage sons living a mostly quiet post-apocalyptic life in the countryside until the nightly visits from creatures with an affinity for human flesh begin to change in tenor.
When the father played by acting legend Nicholas Cage is wounded and the creatures discover a new creative method by which to reach their prey, the boys must make a stand at their homestead to survive until the sun comes up.
Although a fairly standard 90 minutes, I felt this film went unusually quickly, which to me is a good sign as it means I wanted more of it.
There are a few stand out aspects which make this a solid watch, the first of which is the creatures. At first, they seem like your typical “A Quiet Place” genre-mate, but when you finally get to see them in more direct scenes, they have some genuinely unique and surprising physical and behavioral traits. Also, the way they choose to move in a group truly inspired.
The acting is solid and the sibling dynamic is the main star of the show with the brothers and their relationship being the focus much more than Cage, who is more of a supporting character.
Arcadian is an easy rental recommendation for creature feature fans
