While I do miss the E3 - big three presentations, I do feel that having smaller presentations like State of Play and Nintendo Direct throughout the year are nicer.
You gotta be aware that these corporate presentations are often a showcase of in-house development teams rather than their publisher arm which handles a lot of the indie titles and 3rd party titles so that's why they can get away with longer trailers.

I think live events like the Summer of Play are riskier. Development builds can mess up like Sony's Uncharted 4 issue

To someone hi-jacking the stage at The Game Awards

And then you have the audience member having a cute moment with Keanu Reaves at Xbox's event causing more audience participation live events disrupting the show in their attempt to become a meme.

The smaller events like the Directs and State of Play are more controlled and the message is still delivered.

I'm curious about what you think about Xbox and Microsoft as you hadn't mentioned their standing when it comes to presentations

Yea I only really watch whatever applies to me. I’m not really a PC gamer or an XBox user so not super interested in their showcases!
