I’ve tried because I wanted to understand it too and I suspect the best thing you can do is listen to a big variety of it to see how you feel - essentially research.

I found I could understand why some people found certain styles relaxing but then some I couldn’t stand some noises. I think I’m more of a “relaxing rain sounds” person than a “listening to people eat” person 😅

Definitely not looking to muckbang at people. I just want to do highly sensitive readings of resident evil documents in a calm, quiet monotone its vocal pickups maxed out.

I think i need to just put one out in the format I understand and see if there’s positive traction.

Absolutely - maybe encourage people to let you know which bits are working for them so you can lean into those areas if its well received?

Oh the food noises thing drives me mad! 😂 I've often wondered if I have misophonia.

Rain, wind through the trees or over long grass, rivers and the sea...

See I didn’t know if nature sounds count I looooove nature sounds. I have sever misophonia though so I totally get it. The chewing makes me feel like my face is on fire

I cant stand it, asmr sounds are like nails down a chalkboard to me. My wife listens to rain and thunder but that neither bothers or relaxes me.

Now people eating, that drives me mad. When I was a carer, one lady was a really loud eater. Even if I stayed in the kitchen I could still hear her chewing 😖

I’m big time misophonic so I get it. I almost screamed at a guy eating an apple once

The ASMR is something new for me

l find curious or natural sounds like pleasure for the ears but the almost parodic way that is used in the social net are so kinda Creepy

a well tuned performance motor running at peak moves me, literally and emotionally. ;) so i guess Aggressive Sound Motor Revving (ASMR} works for me, all those recorded sounds don't though. lmao

I get the sounds of nature or if someone has a very relaxing voice they could read the telephone register and I would listen to it. But I don't find noise like keyboard clicks relaxing, even though I have a clicky mechanical keyboard and I do like the sound and feel of it when I type I don't want to heart that sound as a background noise when it's not paired with the activity of typing.

Cats purring that's ASMR though.

Haha people have told me I have a good reading voice so maybe I’ll frame it more as a “sleep with me” kind of thing with light rain and nature sounds in the background?

Lanah Tyra's avatar

I think that would work really well!

I’ll see about recording on Saturday and try and do a “mellow Monday” post of it for feedback

E

honestly ASMR just creeps me out

I don’t like the whispering kind, but I do enjoy and calm, monotone reading with good bass
