Started for me way back when I was playing TF2 and the Half-Life SoundSystem app still worked ... someone in chat played PoPiPo by Hatsune Miku and it piqued my interest.
Many years later, i still listen to a large number of Vocaloid tracks near daily.

Well, it's a complicated term, vocaloids which use synthesized voice software to create music. But what about visual representation? If a real person replaced by a fictional artificial avatar?
for some Redditors me!me!me! by TeddyLoid is a Vocaloid, and there are dozen remixes and cosplay dances done by many people and/or animator. Heck, I even saw a BG3 remix of that dance.
They even have an album, and I believe they had a stage performance (on-screen), but the characters in K/DA are voiced by real-life musicians
So would Gorillaz fall under the second example?
I suppose the ABBA Voyage performances would be the similar!
