Truth be told, I'm a horrible fighter in almost every game I play.

So far, my best strategy for fighting anything big in Nightingale is to run in circles while my brother kills it. I always seem to be targeted so it works out well for us. I do offer the occasional support when I can, but I really do seem to have a knack for being the victim of every boss's ire. So, my strategy for the sun giant is basically being carried through the fight.

On a more serious note, stocking on healing items and bullets should get you through the fight. If you're not an all-in, guns blazing, type of fighter, putting distance between you and the sun giant is the best plan. Just hit him with ranged attacks and watch out for his ranged attacks. Of course, if you're into a riskier take down, you could do like my brother and enact a sort of guerrilla warfare like attack where you take the giant down in a series of hit and runs.

The safest way to slay Sun Giant is by using the Summon Swarm spell, which you can unlock pretty early.

  1. Remember, he is not hostile, meaning you can follow him until you find a good spot and then engage.

  2. For this fight keep an umbrella in your hands or be ready to use it as the boss have a gravity attack which will kill you from fall damage (safer to use grapple, but req. knowledge of how to use it right before the ground)

  3. The LoS-tactic (Line of Sight) is pretty simple: the boss is locked on you and tries to cast his coral attack. Since he can't see you, he is unable to place a marker underneath your feet. So you can either be on higher ground than him or hide behind a rock or building.

Here is a video of me doing it on extreme difficulty, both methods are shown:

By the way, on a bounty picture, not a sun giant. And that's important because the actual sun giant is carrying the backpack and some sort of giant lamp on his chest. This lamp is actually a weak spot and serves two purposes: it adds extra damage based on your critical rating, and it interrupts his offensive spellcasting.

So if you are good at aiming, this boss is very easy to kill.

But I still prefer to use fire/poison ammo for the damage over time effect and then running in circles.
