It’s a cool concept for sure. Depending on my budget of time/money, I’d definitely consider participating.

With the structured play through, how would the group go about planning that without spoiling stuff in the game? Would that be on the person who suggested it to determine good stopping points?

Also, would it be PC only, or would indie games available on consoles be in the rotation?

Yeah I think it kind of doesn't work/noone does it already for the reasons you describe/the questions you raise. In practice games are not really linear to fit the structured play/read through like books are, they are expensive v 99p/c on kindle. How does anyone know where to set the progress at each week unless they have already completed it. You still end up with spoilers when some people are a the end of that section v others at the start anyway so its not really any different than one large thread or dedicated group for a game etc.

The thinking came about when I was sitting there going through endless games in the steam sale (and my steam backlog) without really thinking about the flaws/cons. Maybe it works better just getting rid of the structure and having a indie game of the month play through and keeping it simple.

I think it’s a great idea! Why not just forget about the structured playthrough and just hold your thoughts for a complete review (or however far you got into it) at the end of the month? If a new game every month is a bit cost prohibitive, you could make it every two.

I think the core foundations of the idea (to aid discovery/choice paralysis, encourage exploration outside usual tastes and to create a vehicle for community interested in sharing opinions and their experiences) are really strong.

That would work really nicely as a Humble Bundle.

I like this idea - next time you're browsing steam and aren't sure what to download, you could just jump in the 'book club' and see what people are saying.
