Despite how much I adore Fallout, and I think Starfield is preeeeeetty good (but nowhere near as good as my pre-launch hype was dreaming of!), I couldn't get to grips with Skyrim, and the one time I played Oblivion I bounced off it within an hour or so. With that said, I am very much looking forward to The Elder Scrolls 6, just because it's so easy to get caught up in the hype! I'm also hoping they've learned a lot about what went wrong with Skyrim - repetitive cookie cutter dungeons everywhere and a world that doesn't react to you being essentially a walking god thanks to the ability to shout...

That's fair. Bethesda games do have their quirks, and with such long-running franchises they're bound to build up the hype. I was quite late to Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, starting with Fallout 3 and Oblivion (which I also bounced off pretty quickly!).

It was only after playing Skyrim that Oblivion clicked into place for me. It's definitely still missing a lot of the comforts of more modern RPGs, but going back to Arena and Daggerfall shows just how far they've come!

Have you ever played Fallout 1 and 2? I'm on my first playthrough at the moment, and it's cool to see the foundations of the franchise coming together.

My intro to the series was Fallout 3, but I did go back and start the original Fallout many moons ago. Never got round to finishing it though! I've intended to go back to it for so long, but there's always a new game to play hah.
