The smart money always said that Baldur's Gate 3 would be a hit. Developer Larian specialises in games like this, having made two phenomenal CRPGs in Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel, and it took its time in development, with three years in Early Access. Just before launch there was even a controversial social media discussion about whether it would be fair to judge all future RPGs by the standard BG3 might set, given the unique circumstances of its development.
That proved to be prescient: BG3 turned out astonishingly well, racking the joint-highest metascore this year, and more popular than most would've guessed for a relatively niche subgenre of RPG. Our questions for you, now that the dust is settling, are: what standard has it set? What will its legacy and its long-term impact be? Consider other classics of the genre and tell us if, as some are already saying, it's the best RPG ever made?
We want long-form, considered thoughts on this and will put them together into the definitive community-sourced verdict on Baldur's Gate 3. Please make written submissions of at least 500 words or video submissions of at least three minutes, or more if you wish. Five winners will get $10 apiece!
