It'd be a bold move to go for a bite of the Civilization franchise, but if anyone has the history (no pun intended) with grand strategy and deep enough pockets it has to be Paradox.

I'm wondering if attaining a level of technological sophistication changes the world and how players can interact with it, thereby defining the 'ages'. For instance, does the implementation of farming displace wildlife meaning hunter/gatherers become less efficient, or would industrialisation result in pollution of rivers and deforestation, making resource gathering a more complex process?

Not these examples exactly, but players impact the world, preventing/allowing certain types of interaction or modifying unit and building stats.

Separate from any Civ/Millenia comparisons, the trailer does look very cool!
