Finally got round to picking up Dave The Diver, as I'm visiting family for a week over Christmas and can foresee my Steam Deck getting a lot of use! Still have Dredge to finish too. Also picked up A Short Hike because it's been on my wishlist for ages and is only a few pence more than a meal deal, so was a no brainer.

I used to love using a meal deal as a reference for good value, until it ended up being locked behind a Club Card, and prices cost more than the entire loaf and sandwich filling combined... But I digress. What were we talking about?

I haven't committed to anything yet but I've been eyeing up Red Dead and Disco Elysium for my Switch. Subnautica's on there too for anyone who hasn't played it yet - amazing, terrifying game

Have you played Disco Elysium before? It's so good, I'd highly highly recommend it!

I haven't but my other half said I'd like it so I caved! Also picked up plants vs zombies because I've never played it before and Farm Tycoon because it was like 89p

I didn't get too far into Disco Elysium, but it's still an easy recommendation. Incredibly distinctive and memorable. There's little else out there like it.

Nothing so far. I might pick up Timberborn as all the trees and nature make it feel like a cosy game.

Is there anything you're looking at, or do you have any rcommendations?

I didn't look too much at the game sale, as I was more focused on tech. It's both my job and my bread and butter. Did you end up grabbing much in the end?

To be honest not really! I've got such a backlog that I always find it difficult deciding on what to pick up.

I'm checking out laptops instead. I need to buy one that can run Unity for under £500 for a side project. Do you know of any worth recommending or somewhere to look for a good deal?

That really depends on what kinds of things you want to make. After all, you want the laptop you're running to be able to play what you're making once all's said and done, otherwise testing it might be a bit difficult.

With a 3D game, you're going to want something with a discrete graphics card (not integrated) and 32GB of RAM, which will set you back more than £500. Indie games with pixel graphics can focus mainly on the RAM side of things.

For the latter, this doesn't look too bad, but it's £600 (Club386 affiliate link, unsure if that's against the rules. Feel free to delete if so).

I wouldn't recommend anything less than 32GB of memory if you can help it, but there are some good deals on 16GB if you want to risk it:

As for storefronts, I use Amazon the most because they do have the best deals. Box.co.uk, CCL Computers, and Laptops Direct regularly have price drops on laptops. Scan and OverclockersUK less so, but they're very reliable with fantastic customer service.

Thanks, this is a great help! I'll check them out today and hopefully get something soon 😊

I'm around for follow-up questions if you have any. I'm not particularly familiar with game development but hardware needs are my bread and butter.

It's not videogame related, but I bought a soapstone for my BBQ, so that I can make smashburgers properly:

I mainly posted this so I could test whether the image-upload bug is fixed :)

Ummmm when's the bbq are Rupert's house? That looks epic

Honestly, I'm super jealous. I ended up buying an OLED gaming monitor and writing about my experience with it. Probably the biggest Black Friday purchase I've ever made.
