Well that's all down to a bug introduced in the recent patch (4), which caused the game to endlessly check whether a player was spotted stealing. Unfortunately this started causing stuttering and slowdown for players stealing too much, but thankfully the developers are testing a fix now.
So 'fess up. Who here has experienced the righteous, if unintended, slowdown punishment for theft? 😆
