On top of my head, Carcassone would be the first recommendation: a true classic, easy, direct, you can hardly go wrong and it takes nothing to learn it.

Then, Dominion and Ticket to Ride are two other classic I like to recommend. The first requires you to build a deck with cards with the goal to buy property cards, the latter is about building your rail lines once again with cards.

I can't recommend anything else as those are the only table tops I play with a vague regularity. XD

I've always meant to try Carcassone, so I don't know how it keeps passing me by!

As for the other two, I do love a bit of deck building and card-based games. I'll have to check them out, thanks 🙂

An interesting, albeit niche game, that I sometimes get to play is Leader 1: Hell of the North. It's about guiding your team to win in the cycling Cobbled classics ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobbled_classics ) so you have to love cycling but I find it quite fun.

Poetry for Neanderthals is wonderful and a great exercise of language. I can't recommend it enough and had a blast playing it last night, in fact.

If you like games that force you to really think about how you communicate, then you've got to try Concept. It's easily one of my favourite board games.

Here's how it's played. You have to describe something by building up main and sub-concepts represented by pieces you place on a board.

The examples they give in the tutorial are;

Main concept: Food Sub-concept: Liquid Sub-concept: White Answer: Milk

Main concept: Food Sub-concept: Liquid Sub-concept: Red Answer: Ketchup

The things you need to describe can be anything basic like milk or ketchup, all the way to famous quotes and abstract concepts.

We're currently nerding out with Sky Team, a fun/unique 2-player co-op game...

That looks fun in a strangely stressful kind of way! 😅

Anyone who has never done D&D, do it, I am a nerd, and I am the first to admit it, and when my team member said "Hey let's do a DnD session n maybe get into it" I was skeptical, very, but god damn do I love it now, so my advice to anyone to find a D&D group and get stuck in, adventure, role play, evil or good, you can do it all!
