Nice idea! There's no reason this can't be the thread for it - I reckon Vessel of Hatred will score around the 90 mark, Diablo 4 is a fantastic game generally but the narrative is especially strong when compared to the third game, so an expansion focusing on that is bound to do well.

There's also Starfield: Shattered Space launching at the end of this month, which I have similarly high expectations for, because it seems Bethesda may have learned from the shortcomings in the base game. The vibe seems optimistic with this expansion!

JB

I really hope Shattered Space lifts the game. I was really disappointed with the story and gameplay when it released and found it a little bit of a chore to complete definitely not something I would ever say about TES or Fallout!

Will be interesting to see if being set to a, singular planet will help it be more focused or hinder the overall identity of the game with it being about exploring space!

I can probably only comment on the games I've followed:

Dead Rising remake - 7/10. Sticks too closely to the formula and doesn't do enough to change it. Stick with the original but if you want some quality of life changes such as better graphics then go for this one.

Silent Hill 2 Remake 6-7/10 however review bombed by 'fans' of the old game. Not a good replacement for the original.

I like the idea, as the community grows, it could be another way of generating interactions. Let's hope it's accepted and if it is, let's hope it works!

This was VERY necessary before the launch of concord

Honestly, I don't trust reviews anymore, haven't for a long time. Especially not the likes of IGN. You know they're going to give the likes of Starfield shattered space (Though I'm willing to give benefit of the doubt for something not out yet) and silent hill 2 a 9 yet they try to smear games like Wukong gamers love , it's sickening man.

Even YouTubers are becoming difficult to trust when they're obviously shilling for companies like Ubisoft and ignoring blatant problems certain games have. It was especially prevalent with Outlaws, which barely even looks mid.

That said I'd still go by gameplay I see on YouTube and majority word of mouth, you have to spread your net a bit wider these days to figure out the truth about how good or bad a game is.

JB

Yeah I'd have to agree with some of your points there! I never just look at a couple of reviews will usually check metacritic for critic reviews but also public reviews. Both can be unreliable at time though.

IGN are terribly biased and you can almost always predict their score from their impressions.

I was anticipating:

7.5 for Dead Rising Remasterg- Big graphical overhaul but as Makster mentioned, no significant changes to make it warrant buying again if completed previously

8.5 Silent Hill- I think (and hope) this will live up to the hype, with a more expansive map and we'll utilised graphical updates to enhance the atmosphere and chills.

8.0 Starfield Shattered Space - a more focused story but that could be to its detriment that they don't really improve on making space exploration enjoyable/less tedious

After what I've seen for SH I think it'll have a pretty low user score on metacritic, what they did to the characters is unforgivable and the voice acting seems absolutely terrible. Basically seems like a downgrade from the original in every way.

As for Flight Sim 2024 - I think might be a 7.5, it'll be graphically stunning and technically sound like the current flight sim but will have launch issues and weird bugs, particularly for downloads and some might be disappointed by the scope of career stuff to do, which I think at launch will be fairly simplistic.

Of course theyre going to rate AC Shadows a 9, but like with Outlaws there's going to be a lot of bugs and launch issues asides from the mediocre story and general Ubislop recipe.

When you say IGN is bias - bias to which camp?

CelestialFlea's avatar

Bias in favor of those who smear games like Wukong, tell us we're weird about outfit censorship, smear developers who make design choices based on historical accuracy or biased in favor of the kind of people who make games like Dustborn and then scream murder when nobody turns up to play them.

Sorry for answering for you Josh, but I think most would agree this is the kind of bias legacy games news & reviews outlets tend to steer towards and exactly why we don't pay much attention to them anymore.

Makster's avatar

Sorry I don't quite understand. Is there a name of this group they are bias towards?

As an example, both PC Gamer and IGN were both trying to convince people that "Concord had the staying power" or something to that effect, whilst it was barely above 100 players. Pretty much shilling for it whilst it was gasping it's last breath and ignoring all it's issues. If that isn't a clear demonstration of bias I don't know what is.

Similar things happened to Dustborn and many other games that have flopped. Basically, the modern audiences that never seem to turn up and instead everyone else gets blamed.

Though I don't want to stray TOO far off topic, but it's for these reasons I don't trust legacy games media for reviews because 9/10 times they are disingenuous and usually ignore quality issues with games, or dull gameplay loops. Can't beat getting genuine gameplay footage from YouTube let's plays to gauge if you'll like something.

I do like Gameranx though, usually pretty thorough and unbiased though they too drop the ball from time to time.

PC Gamer gave Concord a 45% though..
