So in a previous FF Friday I talked about Chocobos and today we will be taking a look at another one of the series mascots and that is the creature Moogle.
Moogles are a race in Final Fantasy that is easily recognisable just like Chocobos and have made an appearance in nearly every game, In each game Moogles have had a different level of importance to the plot line ranging from playable characters to cameos and summons that grant beneficial effects to the party. Several Moogles have also made repeated appearances including Mog, Stiltzkin, Artemicion and Montblanc.
Appearance
Although their appearance has varied from game to game they usually have white or pink fur, small wings and a pom pom on their head which is small ball of usually red fur and their wings often have a bat like design.
Even though Moogles first made an an appearance in Final Fantasy 3 their design was originally made for a different race in Final Fantasy 2 called the Cryion, The Cryion lived in cold, icy places and were a nomadic race that travel in groups called mnelds. The Cryion was eventually scrapped and the design would go on to be used for Moogles. Final Fantasy 4 is the only game since their introduction that they didn't make an appearance in some form.
Final Fantasy 15 was also originally not going to have any appearance from Moogles but after Square Enix done a poll at the Tokyo Game Show and got such a positive response about their inclusion they were eventually added to the game.
Other games
Due to the popularity and being so recognisable Moogles have also been part of crossovers with other games including Dragon Quest, Star Ocean, Kingdom Hearts, Mana, Super Smash Bros, Yo-kai Watch 3 and many more.
Moogle Origins
The Moogle's Japanese name, Mōguri is a blend of the words for mole (mogura) and bat, (kōmori) "Moogle" is the localized version of Mōguri.
