After discussing Chocobos and Moogles in previous FF Fridays it is now time to take a closer look at Cactuars.
Cactuars first made an appearance in Final Fantasy VI and has appeared as both an enemy and a summon in the series, They are known for their evasiveness ,signature ability 1000 needles and are rewarding enemies to defeat.
Cactuars were designed by Tetsuya Nomura and they are depicted as small cacti having stiff arms and legs, three black holes for their faces and 3 quills at the top of their heads.
Originally in FFVI Cactuars were known as Cactrots and in FFVII the name was changed too Cactuers and "fake Cactuers" were called Cactuars, In later games Cactuars became the standard name for name.
Cactuars signature move is 1000 needles which always does 1000 damage which is unblockable.
As well as appearing the majority of Final Fantasy games Cactuars have also made guest appearances in games like Kingdom Hearts, Assassins Creed Origins , Monster Hunter World, Mario Hoops 3-on-3, Roblox, Sword Art Online 2 and Rise of Mana to name a few of them.
According to an article in the 15 February 1997 issue of V-Jump, the cactuar was designed by Tetsuya Nomura based on a doodle he drew on a notebook when he was a high school student.
