When it comes to the 'Big Three' long-delayed fantasy sequels (Winds of Winter, Doors of Stone, and book 4 of Scott Lynch's Gentleman Bastards) I long ago entered a state of peaceful, zen-like acceptance of any outcome.
That said, I'm definitely still interested in news when it happens, it's just that each individual update always seems so minor. That's the case again this time, so to make this post more useful to you guys I've added a bit of prior context.
A few days ago George RR Martin posted an update to his 'Not a blog' in which he says that he's produced "some new pages on both The Winds of Winter (yes) and Blood & Fire (the sequel to Fire & Blood, the second part of my Targaryen history)" although he "would have liked to turn out a lot more."
To put that in perspective, he said in 2022 that Winds of Winter was about "three-quarters of the way done" (via The Independent), and also that it was "probably" going to be larger than any other book in the Song of Ice & Fire series.
According to his latest blog, his TV projects (House of the Dragon, and the in-development Dark Winds and The Hedge Knight) have taken up most of his time, but he's shared previous updates warning of changes that have been made which in his view "weaken" the story he intended. There's more on this via, again, The Independent (one, two), who seem to be following George pretty closely.
Are you still quivering with anticipation for any of the Big Three or are you resigned to remain in 'it happens when it happens' mode?
