The French government is coming for the content creators, or at least those that don't disclose paid advertising.
In a new effort for transparency and accountability in advertising practices, influencers now need to be much clearer about when they are being paid to advertise a product or service. Failure to do so can result in a 2 years prison sentence and up to £260,000 in fines.
Personally I think this is a good thing, as better regulation will mean clearer information for the audience, helping to prevent misleading information, faulty products, or outright scams from ripping people off.
Is this the government coming in heavy handed, or is this regulation long overdue? Should other governments implement something similar in their countries?
What do you think?
