Residence of Evil is an extremely popular YouTube channel in the world of horror gaming.

The main creator JJ began accruing the fan base on a Facebook group discussing the eventual Resident Evil 2 remake (long before it was ever announced) and when he transitioned to YouTube, he had the unique benefit of bringing a subscriber base along with him from the start.

Theory videos, document readings, and of course let's plays of survival horror games were the initial bread and butter. Their popularity reached a height of being able to interview voice talent in Resident Evil games, as well as make original content featuring the live action cast of the first Resident Evil game's intro video.

They also are creating a Kickstart funded survival horror game called Vigil and and have consistently made short films within the Resident Evil universe.

Basically, they found their audience and have yet to disappoint them, constantly innovating and upping the ante in production value, but still not losing the original soul of the channel which is playing survival horror games and showcasing mods for said games.

Mr Beast - The best bit is, that he's an open book, you find his open interview with C&S here:

https://youtu.be/9IQ_ldV9z_A?si=5BBAG9059teblVS4

Let's look at this guy, he started like most of us, just making random videos online, then he moved onto weirder stuff, doing odd things, cutting things into pieces using paper auto saws.

Then he had this idea, he would count to 100,000, live on YouTube and not stop, no matter how long it took, if he messed up, he had to start again, he managed this and because at this point it was the weirdest thing anyone had seen and he began to grow.

Then he was contacted by a company who wanted to pay him to make a video and they offered him $1,000, he said, immediately and demanded $5,000 because he wanted to change someone's life, he wanted to give a homeless person $5,000 and change their life. To which they agreed and he counted it out on his video and then with just him and Chris, he gave a homeless guy $5,000.

This video shot his direction and career in the direction he goes now, each project is bigger than the last, each video is about making people money by doing challenges and or taking part in group activities.

How has this pushed me? Because it has, because if after 8 years he can make it, so can I, it's that simple. It's why I post videos, cover games, make tutorials etc.

I think this just about covers it :)

Brody Deschanel for sure!

She does video essays about film and TV. I think her channel has done so well because she does videos on media that is very popular (eg: Euphoria and Saltburn).

Her videos are also very well researched and the quality of them has steadily improved as her channel has gain traction.

Also, her mix of very popular film analysis and more niche subjects work in her favour I would say, as she can reel people in with something that they're interested in and then there are a bunch of high quality videos by her that the viewer doesn't know much about.

She's definitely one of my favourite content creators for sure.

This is a fascinating example!

With just 47 video uploads over three years, averaging about 1.3 videos per month, it clearly shows that you don’t need to bombard your audience with frequent uploads to be successful. It’s a testament to the idea that quality trumps quantity. Additionally, she has an impressively high subscriber-to-view ratio; with only 27 million views, she has garnered 408k subscribers, indicating a very high engagement rate.

I choose 'PewDiePie', I had the same dream as well but instead of giving up He actually went for his dreams. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zYI8FjSF_k Despite releasing a video saying that he gave up, he continued to release videos just a few days later. It took me 20 years later(now) to actually pursue my own dream. So let's take a deeper look at what PewDiePie did.

Authenticity PewDiePie's success is largely attributed to his authenticity. He presents himself as genuine and unfiltered, which creates a strong connection with his audience (Bro Fist!). Viewers appreciate creators who seem real and relatable, and PewDiePie excels in this aspect showing his emotions and being real with the fans. Engagement He actively engages with his audience, often incorporating their feedback and suggestions into his content. This interaction fosters a sense of community and belonging among his viewers, leading to higher engagement levels. Versatility PewDiePie has demonstrated versatility in his content over the years. While he initially gained fame for his gaming videos, he has since diversified his content to include vlogs, commentary, reviews, and even music. This adaptability ensures that he remains relevant and appealing to a broad audience. Consistency PewDiePie has consistently delivered content over the years. His dedicated uploading schedule has helped him maintain a loyal fanbase and attract new viewers.

Humor PewDiePie's sense of humor is a significant aspect of his content. His comedic style, which often includes sarcasm, wit, and self-deprecation, resonates with many viewers, contributing to his widespread popularity. Even when being bashed by other content creators he comes back in witty and humorous ways rather than hate.

His journey and story

Despite his immense success, PewDiePie's content is not immune to fluctuations in viewership. While his main content types typically receive high views, he may see fewer views on certain videos, such as experimental or niche content that may not appeal to his broader audience.

Over time, PewDiePie's content has evolved to reflect changes in his interests, audience preferences, and the YouTube landscape.

I think PewDiePie is a prime example of how someone can evolve and mature with their audience. If he still tried the same style of reactionary content he used to be famous for, he'd probably still get the views, but it wouldn't be a reflection of his true self any longer because he's in his mid-30s now, has a kid, etc. Quite impressive how he's managed to adapt and still bring in millions of views per video!

Im going to have to go with RED LETTER MEDIA. Its easy maybe to pick the most popular highly successful creators. And usually but not always they all use the same tactics to drive those views such as suggestive thumbnails, short form content and reactions.

The channel i have chosen is 5 middle aged guys who review movies but have a sub channel aimed at reviewing really bad movies. Do they use short form content ? No. DO they use click bait ? no Trends, Styles, popularity ? No. Are their videos reasonable lengths? No .. often over an hour! So why so popular !

They target a large group of people who just enjoy watching middle aged guys get together and have a good time watching films and drinking beer. They edit the videos well, and showcase a lot of hilarity from bad films. They also know the film industry well and spend length showcasing hidden gems from the past. There is a level of nostalgia from watching vhs from your childhood with their channel. And as long as films from the 80's 90's and 2000's dont run out. they can keep on going and going ! they currently have 1.52 million subscribers. They inspire creators to not follow all the youtube trends, and just get out there and create what you love.

Maximilian DoodProbably not the first person when you think about gaming personalities on YT or Twitch but ask anyone remotely interested in Fighting Games or the FGC and they will be able to tell you about this hype beast.

Max is the definition of old school veteran bringing forth knowledge to the new blood. Having grown up during the decline of the Arcades: Max cut his teeth on Marvel vs. Capcom 1, Killer Instinct, Fatel Fury, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, and of course, Street Fighter. Taking that knowledge he begins to make a series of educational comedy skits called Assist Me where he will talk you through the ins and outs of a character (whilst that character visits him). The series was cheesy but still showed off some impressive production quality and also clearly displayed Max's love for fighting games.

I think it really is his passion for games that you can see come through in his twitch streams and videos. Some of his best performing videos are: ranking every super, or ranking every costume and I can why. It's Max reacting to the something in game but then adding some context and commentary on why it was good and what it is referencing. Again like an old school veteran providing pearls of wisdom to the younger generation.

To me it would have to be a pokemon go content creator called Poke Daxi

Pokemon go is one of those games where it has now turned into an entirely event based game where there are real life time based events that impact what pokemon spawn in the game and what shiny pokemon you can get. Usually this can be pokemon hatching in eggs, maybe spawning in raids or wild encounters and over time with these events comes the addition of new pokemon that haven’t been added to the pool of pokemon in the game! Also old pokemon can be added which can be shiny. Pokemon go players are always after the new shiny pokemon and Poke Daxi does an absolutely great job by staying on top of all the events that get added to the game. He creates videos which dissect all the new information, he creates infographics which allow you to see all of the new pokemon added and all of the new shiny rates!

And best of all he gives you tips and trick on how to maximise playing during that event. I always watch his youtube videos about the new pokemon go events

I didn't really follow Pokemon outside 3rd generation but yeah I follow that guy too!

He really helps get me back into Pokemon and I was just thinking about the videos I used to watch whilst playing Pokemon Sword and Shield on Switch. Great submission!

Although I’ve mentioned this channel before, I’m analyzing it from a fresh perspective today. The channel in question is @nascompares, a comprehensive platform that includes YouTube videos, written articles at nascompares.com, and even a Discord community.

Robbie, the main figure behind this brand, exemplifies how deep passion for a niche subject can establish you as the #1 expert and help you build a substantial media presence. Network attached storage and similar file storage and network devices might not be everyday topics of discussion, but this niche focus has allowed Robbie to create his own media 'empire.'

From my observations, no other media covers these products with the same level of expertise. Over time, Robbie has built a robust foundation for a tech community. Here are the main takeaways:

  • Niche Focus: Specializing in niche products can be highly rewarding if you are an expert and genuinely passionate about the subject.

  • Understanding Your Audience: Robbie's audience includes prosumers, tech geeks, and engineers who prefer in-depth exploration of topics - hence, the prevalence of lengthy articles and videos over 60 minutes.

  • Diverse Content Strategy: The combination of news coverage (timely but short-lived), reviews (relevant for 3-5 years due to product life cycles), and philosophical discussions (enduring relevance) ensures a steady stream of engagement. inline(903x379):

  • Targeted Audience: Though smaller, Robbie’s audience is highly relevant to the niche. A NAS manufacturer would likely see a higher conversion rate from a review on this channel than from a broader tech channel like @mkbhd, despite his 18.7 million subscribers - and at a lower cost. This illustrates the tight bond niche channels can develop with brands. inline(886x260):

  • Monetization: While I don’t have specific revenue figures for NasCompares, it’s evident that Robbie utilizes multiple revenue streams including referral links, advertisements, potentially paid reviews, product recommendations, daily deals, Patreon, and tips.

By studying @nascompares, content creators can learn the importance of specialization, understanding their audience, and diversifying their content and revenue streams to build a successful and sustainable platform.
