In YouTube's bid to compete with TikTok for a share of the vertical video market, they're introducing jewels, an alternative to TikTok's gifting system. As creators, what are your thoughts on how TikTok does it, and do you think YouTube is smart to try and mimic it? Do you ever do vertical streams on any platform?

Smart to try and make a familiar alternative, in the US at least, because TikTok may not be available here at some point in the foreseeable future.
Not sure how I feel about it as the lack of transparency around revenue splits, also we earn Rubbies that are worth 1 cent each…. Mmmm will need to see what creators think especially as when you tenable this feature it disables super stickers which has a clear rev split, but hey if nobody’s using stickers maybe this will be better and promoted better by YouTube. I feel YouTube needs to do a better job of promoting how users can support creators on the platform instead of fully leaving it to the creators as board brush stroke behaviour changes can take a long time to arise, plus also make the benefits valuable for the user, I hate how bad and small emotes are on YouTube which is a big members perk but what’s the point if they are so small you can barely make them out?
Why for Partners only though? I feel like if Youtube and Twitch made tipping available for anyone, that would reduce the need to use Ko-fi or Patreon for many creators, as they could get some form of income from the get-go on the platform they are doing their content on. Then when they reach Partner or Affiliate they can set the memberships and all that.
