The Dragon's Dogma devs do not mess! If you plan on liking any of your NPCs you better be prepared to protect them as the Capcom team advise they are at risk in the fantasy world.
Personally, I know I've gone charging after some NPCs whose sole job was to distract enemies from me because I just can't face losing them. I might be in trouble in DD2...
