Greetings, CMDRs!
Yesterday marked the 40th anniversary of Elite, a game that forever changed the space sim genre. Released on 20th September 1984, Elite was the brainchild of David Braben and Ian Bell, who accomplished a remarkable feat: fitting an entire galaxy into just 22 kilobytes of memory on the BBC Micro. This technical achievement created a vast, 3D universe, an impressive leap for its time.
Elite was more than just a game; it was a glimpse into the future of open-world gaming, where players could explore eight procedurally generated galaxies, each with 256 planets to discover.
