Yes it is a bold move to let our hands on something so early in development. I knew for more than 7 years it was worked on with couple of failed attempts since DUST 514 shut down. In summer 2022 rumors started spreading that finally something is happening this time for real.

I was so hyped and excited when the game was revealed at Fan Fest 2023 (tbh I was expecting a new screenshot and an assurance the work is being done) and at the same time I felt panic if the same thing won't turn players off. There are already EVE Online players who scoff at the game because of it's unfinished state. It's hard to ignore that doom chorus 😅

My impression is the feedback is being acknowledged and worked on. There are bug fixes and improvements added every playtest. So far the feedback is being relayed mostly via EVE Vanguard Discord Channels

But... maybe it could get more professional and use a kanban board system for submitting feedback, seeing backlog, triage, sprints and planned work, in progress etc. I don't expect for it to be as detailed as to show the WHOLE work being done - just the feedback. It could use Trello or Jira or something similar🙄

Agree, BTW atlassian created a tool for that, called Atlas. Its a tool for producers, to manage 'big chunks' of a project, of even sub-projects. For teams there are tools to show their progress w/o going too much into details, for customers - show their reactions and feedback.

It’s a bold step and so requires clear communication, not just to EVE players but to those who played Dust. Two things need to come across loud and clear, Vanguard is very early in development and it is not Dust 2.0.

Sharing the 6 month Roadmap definitely helped manage expectations, we could see that next patches would focus on bug fixes and new content would be a wait until March. CCP have listened and prioritised the most annoying bugs such as the 1 shot/reload and added push-to-talk so I’m happy with that.

What I don’t like is the retrospective, play 4 out of the 6 playtests for a big reward in June, this feels needlessly using ‘fear of missing out’ tactics

I understand the need to limit Vanguard behind Omega status whilst it is being developed but I really would like a plex option that aligns to the playtest dates, this would support former Dust players who have no interest in piloting a spaceship in EVE

That's the first time I heard of this. Thanks for mentioning it, I skipped the last playtest due to priorities. Bu, I kind of like the reward stuff while I also agree. Utilizing FOMO is shit.

I am going to be completely honest here and play devil's advocate, hopefully my opinion won't lower your opinion of me, Alex

It's rubbish, it's going to fail because they are making the same mistakes they did with early Eve Online clients and gameplay.

  1. It's bland and the landscapes, it's boring

  2. The gun recoils are horrendous

  3. You have to "accept" directives, rather than just dropping in with "set" missions

  4. There is no need for a gun "crafting" system

  5. COD/Fortnite does not require you to craft guns, you simply find them

  6. No MiniMap, you have to bring it up

  7. The MiniMap when brought up is tiny, useless

  8. There are no "directional" fire indicators, or movement indicators

  9. If a person has "crafted" a better gun, you're dead, period.

  10. The entire concept of Vanguard is overly complicated

  11. There is no custom build situation that actually works

  12. The reason games like Fortnite/COD work is because players are forced together for combat, this is not the case on Vanguard

It is supposed to be an FPS, so make an FPS, not a complicated crafting run and run, and get wrecked by someone who had the next-level weapon.

I know it's in Alpha/beta but, it needs a TON of work before it is even ready. 42 of my community have tried it and they hate it, saying exactly what I said above.

My opinion is not so easily lowered :D I hear you, but I would recommend patience on many of these issues. They're not just early in development, they're extremely early in development. It's incredibly rare that developers would show their community the game this early, and by showing the unfinished product and getting feedback, they'll be able to tackle issues - big and small - long before taking the game to market. I'm sure you're right that it needs a tonne of work, but I suspect that's exactly what they have planned.

I'm cautiously optimistic. But it's too early to say anything. The base seems to be there. Now only time will tell if they can build something good on top of it.

<3 diffrent approach, beside my harsh critic i hope together with the community we can form a wonderful long term game. I just want to have my universe getting a little bigger.
