So for us, we don't normally do hauling runs to sell until there is a decent amount of loot to haul. The main activity is High Sec/WH Data/Relic and DED Complex running, so we need a good amount of space and stealth abilities. So we use a shield extended fit Crane, which is a T2 Hauler, which can warp cloaked.

The fit is below :)

“The Astero covert transport fit converts the frigate into a small, agile, fast-warping, and discreet platform that can move high-value cargo over great distances while avoiding hostile camps and traps along the way. Be mindful of undock corridors and avoid hanging around at station perimeters for significant lengths of time.”

Just because you’re hauling doesn’t mean you have to make it lethally obvious, or haul the biggest packages, or make yourself a bit fat target.

When pilots think of “hauling” or transporting, they’ll often think of industrials or even freighters. However, our history shows that these vessels, and in particular freighters, are often the targets of gate killteams and pirates.

In the age of rampant attacks on transport pilots, now is the time when it pays to be discreet and unsuspecting.

Therefore, one “hauler” of choice is the Astero.

The Astero as a hull choice has several advantages. Firstly, as a frigate, it presents a smaller target that opposing forces in larger crafts and even destroyers will take some seconds to lock on to before they can even fire. Secondly, its primary focus, the Covert Ops cloak, can be activated the moment you begin aligning to your next gate, negating the enemy’s attempt to even lock onto you. By the time they even attempt to lock on, you will have warped off to the next gate and slipped beyond their camp.

This makes the Astero transporter variant particularly advantageous for transporting small high-value items to trade hubs over long-distances, provided you avoid hanging around at station undock corridors or the docking perimeters. Therefore, setting up pre-arranged docking bookmarks is vital, as is required for any transport assignment.

With maximum skills, the Microwarpdrive will allow the Astero to achieve speeds of almost 3km/sec, evading any gun trackers and minimizing any damage from missiles that manage to catch it.

As an alternative, the Afterburner presents a much smaller signature radius while still allowing for speeds over to 1km/sec.

These are technically two fits, but for the same ship. The Sunesis is a classical small transport vessel that I personally fly quite a lot. One fit is for nearly day 1 characters, while the other one is meant for highly skilled chars.

Thanks Luka Zaharin, I've always liked the look of the Sunesis! Would you mind adding a couple of sentences (either on Bluesky or on Just) about what makes these fits fit for their designed purpose? I.e. what makes the second fit, for example, a good choice for low-level haulers

Hey, sure! May I copy-paste the workbench descriptions or are you looking for more detail?

I actually missed those. If you could copy and paste them, that'd be great, but I'm going to award your submission now regardless. o7

Done! I could not edit my submission after it got awarded, so I wrote a reply.

I'm afraid I also just noticed that the two workbench links are upside down. I made a mistake when linking them, but sadly I cannot rectify my error.

Description of the Day 1 fit:

The Sunesis is a great small scale hauling vessel. This is a classical fit for day one players with no skills and provides a good travel speed and decent cargospace. It is nearly impossible to catch in both high and lowsec, but cannot avoid bubbles without careful piloting. It can usually tank a smartbombing battleship. To make sure it has the needed align time of 1.95 seconds, the Skill "Evasive Manouvering" needs to be trained to level 2, but otherwise it is day 1 and Alpha friendly

Description of the lvl 5 skills fit:

The Sunesis is a great small scale hauling vessel. This is a classical fit for players with high skills and provides a high travel speed and very decent cargospace. It is nearly impossible to catch in both high and lowsec, but cannot avoid bubbles without careful piloting. It can usually tank two smartbombing battleships and the cloak permits it to hide for extended durations.
