Which Director would get your butt in the seat at the cinema?
Although films are largely a collaborative effort, it often falls on the visionary guidance of the director to make sure the film goes from live-action motion to printed on that 35mm film and then projected onto the silver screen for all of us to enjoy.
As I've gotten older, I've realised that the allure of beautiful actors wanes as I appreciate the cinematography and pacing of a film much more. How it is cut, how it looks, the way the camera moves etc and often it is down to the director's vision (unless the studio execs get their hands on it).
So who are your favourite Directors? And what are your favourite films that they made?
Below is a list of Directors I will always see their films in cinema:
My absolute favourite director is David Lynch, although I don't feel confident that he's got another feature length film in him as he seems to have slowed down a lot as he's gotten older. His last feature length film was 2007!
Martin Scorsese movies are always worth watching. I absolutely loved Killers of the Flower Moon, and I think generally his recent films have been fantastic.
Beyond that, I also really rate Ari Aster, Jordan Peele, Greta Gerwig, Wes Anderson, the Safdie brothers, and Bong Joon-Ho
I can honestly say I have never chosen to see a film based on the director or whos in the cast. Its a bonus if its a director I know and whos work I have enjoyed in the past but I always choose to see a film based on my first impressions of trailers or because I am a fan of the genre.
Denis Villeneuve because at the moment we are 3 out of 3 in regard to a good (Blade Runner 2047)/great (Dune I and II) viewing experience.
Others would include James Cameron, Christopher Nolan albeit I know I'll come out with "what did I watch...?", and Steven Spielberg because he really is a classic.
mmmm I’d probably say James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Stephen Spielberg. Would really love to see Nolan take on the James Bond franchise for a few movies, I think he would crush it!
