One year after a supermoon awakes recessive genes in over a billion people, transforming them into werewolves and causing the death of millions worldwide, the planet prepares for another supermoon likely to do the same.
Frank Grillo and Katrina Law star as military science officers tasked with developing a sort of moon-screen to stop the transformation from occurring. As these things always do, something goes awry and the duo need to battle their way across a werewolf infested city to get Frank’s sister in law and niece and save them.
Ultimately Werewolves is what I refer to as a “romp” and doesn’t have a whole lot of substance or re-watchability. I enjoyed it, but buying it is something I wouldn’t recommend.
The rental is currently still quite expensive—more expensive than I would suggest spending—so at the moment, my recommendation is to skip and wait for it to be on a streaming service you already have access to. However, I think this could be the type of movie a group of friends would have a great time watching together, so maybe if the rental goes below $6, it could make a good movie night choice if no one is in a particularly serious mood.
I also have to give it props for, wherever possible, using practical effects. The werewolf suits being a tangible presence on the screen gives it an admirable quality.
