Watching Nosteratu feels like how it must have felt to read the novel in 1897, as well as to watch the original film in 1922—Expressly unique and eerie.
If you are a fan of either, you won’t be disappointed, but you’ll also have a few surprises in store throughout the runtime as this remake carves its own narrative path, while still hitting all the classic setup beats.
There are some fantastically unpleasant scenes in this movie, including several convulsion episodes which are very near on par with Isabelle Adjani’s underpass scene in Possession.
This isn’t an art house remake for the ages, this is a movie that understands it is horror and doesn’t pull any punches for the sake of “class.”
Suffice it to say, I thought it was very good. At the moment, a rental is a full $20 and to purchase it is $25 on most sites. I heartily recommend spending the extra money and owning this one, especially if you aren’t keen on waiting till it goes down in price.
