I am a former hip hop/break dancer (early to mid 2000's) and my love of good choreography has stuck with me ever since. I have even taught dance in both hobby and professional settings and still can't help but to mentally map out a routine when a song really hits me.
My musical tastes have changed quite a bit in the intervening years, moving from hip hop and rap fairly suddenly to rock and hard rock. As they say, there is no accounting for taste, so I couldn't tell you exactly why it happened, but the vocal styles and artificial instrumentals just don't make me want to bust a move anymore.
However, in the last few years I've discovered YouTube's vast array of choreographers and while they do throw back choreo to the songs of my krunk days, to stay relevant and on top of their SEO they do quite a bit of new music. Brinn Nicole, JoJo Gomez, Marissa Hart and Anais Petra are my most followed instructors.
When Unholy (Sam Smith/Kim Petras) came out, it was everywhere and I genuinely didn't like it, partially due to the fact it was everywhere and I don't enjoy oversaturation of anything, but mostly because it just isn't my style of music. Then I saw an fantastic choreography routine by Seoin, an instructor from South Korean dance studio 1MILLION, and an immediate connection to the possibilities of the beats and themes was made in my mind. Suddenly, I liked the song Unholy, even without watching choreography along with it.
With the way my mind is evidently wired, a song can be incomplete--vinyl yet to be etched. Stellar 3rd party choreography can be the stamp which turns it into an enjoyable piece of art.
