I second that harvest and build mode, it would be really great.

Companions are indeed excellent for beginners in the game, particularly for tasks like resurrecting players or carrying items.

However, after losing my companion Nell, along with all the gear and loot, I've been hesitant to rely on them. In the endgame, without proper gear, they seem too fragile. Their efficiency is another issue: while I can chop down five trees, my companion might just stand idly by a single log. I might try again with the Charm of the Leader to test if it improves their damage output, but as it stands, I don't feel a pressing need for assistance in carrying items, gathering materials, or engaging in combat.

Mine has disappeared as well.

Discord peeps recommend to not store anything of value in them lol =)

This happened to me too, but I clicked 'help I'm stuck' in the system menu, and when it teleported me to a new location, my companion returned. No promises, but it's worth a shot!

When you track a particular build, I'd then like a command wheel to tell the npc to target crafting that item, so they then use the correct tools to gathers whats needed when out and about, they should pick the items up instead of cutting down trees, smashing rocks, but then leaving them on the ground. Even better when at the base, if you have all the base items they should gather them up out of storage and make them themselves.

you should also be able to recruit multiple npcs and they each have different skills, so you can assigned one to the base to craft, one to be go out fighting with you, and one to be sent on missions to gather and bring back resources.

I'd also like to tell them to guard/attack specifically. Before mine quit and disappeared, sometimes they would just mope about ignoring all the baddies around me, and only attack when attacked themselves.

Actually Alex Sinclair, there’s a relatively simple feature that could significantly enhance the gameplay experience (If there’s a way to relay my feedback to the developers).

I’d love to see an option to call my companion to my interaction zone. Something like a hotkey to whistle or grab their attention on demand would be incredibly useful, especially when gathering resources or building.

Another aspect I’d appreciate having control over is when and how companions use crafting materials. It can be quite frustrating when they use valuable resources like gilded lumber for campfires and Aid missions. Being able to direct their resource usage would be a great improvement. Perhaps implementing a split inventory system for companions could be a solution. Similar to the player's hands/quick slots, there could be two zones: one for stashing items where they are locked and inaccessible to the AI, and another for quick use. Items in this quick-use slot could be freely utilized by the AI as needed, just like the current setup.

Gilded lumber on your campfire is not ideal. Unlike with EVE, we don't have an immediate way to pass this on to the devs, but you could try the #hopes-and-dreams or #questionsforthedevs Discord channels. I imagine you're not alone in wanting this, and I think a split inventory is an elegant and (theoretically) not difficult-to-implement fix.

I can also see how the whistle would come in handy. I've often found myself super over-encumbered walking at 1mph trying to find my companion who's wandering around admiring the scenery.

haha yea, but once you reach that slow-mo speed you can load yourself w/o a limit, like 50.000 or more!
