Ooh, amazing bounty!

I would deffo say, 1 of my fave writing pieces about sports is the essay by Bartless Giamatti names The Green Fields of the Mind

This was written by the former president of Yale University and Major League Baseball commission. The essay captured the essence of the end of baseball season. The writing is poetic and reflective, portraying baseball as a metaphor for the passage of time and the changes that come with it

What I love most is how the message evokes a deep emotional connection to the sport, transcending mere games to touch on the universal themes of nostalgia, loss and the cylcle of life

I have linked the essay. It’s so worth a read and keen to know your thoughts.

One of my favourite pieces of writing about sports is the sports manga/anime Haikyu!!. The story and art is by Haruichi Furudate. The story follows two aspiring volleyball players, Shoyo Hinata who aims to be the best volleyball player despite his short stature, and Tobio Kageyama a talented setter who struggles with working within a team. The story, symbolism, and action are all engaging, and the anime enhances this. There are also some inspirational messages within this manga, and despite it being a Shounen Manga, it is quite down to earth. This manga also inspired me to take up sports again.

This one may seem quite basic, but it's the start of a new football season and the transfer rumour mill and outgoings always provides plenty of entertaining deadline day escapades.

I always enjoy reading about the most ridiculous and least expected transfers and how they have ended up happening. Hence, I nominate this article which sheds light on some of the more zany transfer stories and the eventual outcome!
