The official Starfield website was updated today with a canonical future history of space exploration. According to this, the first humans land on Mars in 27 years, and by the end of the century, "humans are living in space". It's another half-century until we arrive in Alpha Centauri, the nearest star system to ours, capital of Starfield's United Colonies (and setting of perhaps the greatest 4X game ever made).
On we go from there, through over two more centuries of settling ever more distant star systems plus a fair bit of war. Sounds like us!
