Honestly, the word that comes to mind is "crap".

The limitations, from the fact it's remote play only to the fact they've said it has a comparable battery life to the PS5 pad means it's a complete non-starter for me.

I know it is dissapointing, I wish they would have pushed the boat out a bit more, unless theres more features to be announced but who knows, seems they may be going after gamers who want to play in another room or something if the TV is in use by other family members or something...

I think there's some appeal to being able to stream from your PS5 from anywhere in the world, but I'd need to see how it looks in action.

I do think the device is ugly as sin, mind, which is bizarre when you consider how pretty the PSP and Vita are.

To me, it feels like a half-arsed attempt to capitalise on the success of the Switch, but I'm not quite as anti it as a lot of sentiment I've seen

Agreed, I think i heard they are working on a new streaming tech / service, called chronos or something right now, which I imagine they would roll into the PS Plus Premium service possibly? If that worked well (for folks who have good internet i guess) that could be an interesting proposition as you wouldnt need to own a PS5 then, so you could just get a Portal with a PS Plus Sub and play PlayStation games, could be a cool companion device, but only time will tell...... I wonder if they ever though about or are also working on a fully fledged system after the success of Steam Deck etc as that could play PS5 games with some settings toned down!?

Call me old fashioned, but don't really get it (same goes for Steam deck) if I want to play on my PS5 I just play there? I wouldn't enjoy a game designed for a big TV on such a small screen. If it had the cloud streaming option then maybe, lots of PS3 or PS2 titles which would be fun to play again, and would be fine on a small screen too. Probably if I wanted a handheld device I would sooner buy a good old PSP with games designed specifically for it.

Can't see this working in a country where public wi-fi is crap. In my last hotel stay in London I had to use my mobile hotspot for a video call since hotel wifi was so useless (and even that had like 300ms ping due to low signal)

Don't have any Playstation stuff these days but I do actually like the idea in a general sense although it is a niche market. In reality most handhelds get played at home so having the device just being a dumb terminal and all the power being remote from the main ps5 makes sense to me. I am a bit surprised there isn't a dumb terminal style steam deck for a lower price point that only does streaming from your pc.

The problem from experience is the bit rate is never high enough so you get a smeary hazy sort of picture lacking detail, most people's home networks are not good enough to make it work well due to the lack of use of wired networking etc.

Going a bit OT but In terms of cloud streaming (which this apparently doesn't do), my pc will be good enough for another 5 years at least but when the time comes I am hopeful that geforce now has much more support than it does today and I can properly consider moving to it. £15 a month for a 4080 rig is pretty good today when you consider not only no upfront costs but the electric bill for running a well used high end gaming rig is probably £15 or more as it is and I think people forget this when comparing costs.
