I like to think I'm pretty flexible with games, but a mixed review does make me pause for a second.

It won't necessarily stop me from buying at full price, but I'll spend a bit of time digging around positive and negative reviews to see what's up.

Still, a good bad game can be amazing!

Whenever I get a new game I've usually had my eye on it before release, and I'll only reconsider if critic and/or user reviews are mixed or worse. For me to take a punt on a new game I've not been following, especially at full price, it kinda has to be overwhelmingly positive. This policy has never let me down (but also means I don't take many punts...)

My go-to algorithm for a meaningful experience:

([my gut-level interest on a scale of 1-10)*([5-star ratings]+[1-star ratings]-[3-star ratings])

Works every time, most of the time.

I think I need to test that in a spreadsheet 😂

I don't trust Steam reviews

I didn't vote because there wasn't an option that suits me.

While it's wonderful that anyone can review anything, the system is too regularly abused for my liking. From joke reviews aiming to get a laugh to review bombing and weaponising historic reviews through edits, I just don't see as much value in them anymore. The qualitative reviews that add detail are important cornerstones for me, but the overall rating is a quantitative approach I don't care for.

I've found countless gems sitting in the "Mixed" and even "Mostly Negative" zones merely because the players of the game that left the reviews weren't exactly the brightest, and had the loudest voices.

From then on, I've always decided that if I have fun either watching the trailer, or gameplay of other people, then I'd have fun playing it myself. And it's held true... most of the time

Gif is a bit extreme. Looks like a serious neck or head injury.
