It’s (very almost) Chriiiiistmaaaas! If you’re anything like us, then you’ve left your Christmas shopping to the last minute. Fear not! We’re here to save Christmas with a gaming gift guide full of ideas from dedicated gamers.
Often, gift guides feature promoted and sponsored products that the authors are incentivised to praise. That makes it hard to know whether that mouse mat with LED lights will really ‘level up your game, optimise your play, and make you feel like you’re really in the battle!’ That’s not the case with Just About’s guides.
All of the gift ideas below were submitted by our community - a community full of game aficionados expressing what they truly want for Christmas. You’ll notice we don’t have any links, so you can trust that we’re not running an affiliate hustle on the side - if you like the look of one of the products below, we recommend you do your own research before making a purchase.
And now that’s out of the way: let’s get shopping!
Custom neon lighting
First up, we have the excellently named GameofBeardz. Beardz’s Christmas gift recommendation is a creative use of a piece of retro tech: a personalised neon sign. Perhaps not inherently ‘gamey’, but like the excessive use of neon signage - if it’s possible to use such a wonder excessively, which it is not - gaming took off in the 1980s. It’s part of the look for many gamers, as evidenced by those, such as streamers, who like to display their hobby. In Beardz’s words:
“Even if they don’t stream, neon signs of your loved one’s gamer tag are really cool to personalise game rooms and create certain vibes”
Funnily enough, another one of our members MURRRAAAAY was given one of these and recommended it for our separate, soon-to-be-published content creator gift guide. His response? “I was super shocked, over the moon, and blown away!”
Gaming Lego
Lego has been a staple of our Christmas stockings for generations, and it’s grown with us, launching kits that are designed for adults as well as ones themed around modern IPs. That very much includes video games; MURRRAAAAY reports that he was delighted to receive a Horizon: Forbidden West tallwalker, and my own envy levels are as high as its 13.5-inch neck right now. It’s no wonder that he recommends it as a gift for fellow gamers.
“It’s suitable for all ages, and who doesn’t love Lego? Combine it with gaming and you’re onto a surefire winner. My wife spoiled me and got me this Horizon Forbidden West tallneck which I can’t wait to build once I figure out where I’m going to display it! Part of what makes a gift like this so great is that you can build it with your partner or family so everyone can join in on the fun! There are sets available from Nintendo, Pac-Man, Atari, and Sega too, so there’s going to be something suitable for every gamer out there.”
USB foot pedals
Next up, Dave has an idea that he admits is a little unusual. But hear him out, he makes a strong case:
“For a PC gamer, I recommend these dual USB foot pedals by IKKEGOL (other foot pedal products are available). Similar to extra triggers on the back of a controller, you gain two easy-access mappable buttons that are out of the way under your desk.
“For example, in Fortnite, you could use one as a push-to-talk button and the other as the edit or switch materials button. That frees up the mouse buttons and those around WASD for other things. Streamers could use them for production controls, a bit like a stream deck. At work, you could even bind them to some shortcuts that would be helpful for your role, like forwarding and rewinding audio or video.”
Halo energy sword desklamp
From the highly practical to the straight-up awesome. There’s not much we can say about EveOnlineTutorials’ recommendation other than yes, we would like it, please. And it seems we aren’t alone in that.
“For me, it’s got to be this. We all played Halo, and not to be rude but if you haven’t played it, then what have you been doing with your life? It’s the best. So I’m submitting this as my go-to Christmas present for gamers. I totally did not just order this.”
Unsurprisingly given the fame of Halo’s energy sword, we’ve spotted licensed and unlicensed versions of it online, so shop carefully!
Final Fantasy XIV phone charger
Lanah Tyra’s Christmas gift recommendation is another recognisable object from a beloved game, but one which also has a practical use. If you’re shopping for someone who loves Final Fantasy XIV - or needs a good-looking wireless phone charger - then look no further.
“If you played FFXIV, you’ll be familiar with the various Allagan tomestones - an in-game currency you receive for completing dungeons and then get to spend on gear. You either have too many of them and don’t know what to spend them on, or you can’t get enough!
“Now you can get an Allagan-tomestone-shaped wireless mobile charger stand. I think it’s pretty cool as you can actually look at your phone since it’s not the usual flat charging pad but a stand as well.”
USB mug warmer
The next product is recommended by Scrbzy, and boy oh boy do I need one of these. Let’s just say that the coffee I made myself when I started writing this article is currently a few degrees higher than room temperature and completely untouched. True story. The true story of my life.
“I’m a big tea drinker, and one gadget I could not be without at my desktop is a cup heater. More often than not, I’ll make a cuppa, queue up for a game, and then forget about it. By the time I come to drink it, it’s lukewarm. Nobody wants to drink lukewarm tea! The cup heater will plug into any USB slot and is a must-have for the colder months. It’s useful for any hot beverage; just pick your poison!”
A new controller
It’s hard to go wrong with Alan’s recommendation of a new controller. Whether your loved one wants a performance upgrade, a snazzier-looking pad, or an extra for multiplayer gaming, there are loads of official and unofficial controllers to choose from. Your choice should of course match the console of your loved one, but Alan has a strong recommendation for Xbox and PC gamers:
“What’s better than a state-of-the-art game controller to help you get those amazing wins in the new OG Fortnite? My top choice of gamer gift is the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2”
Planetary nebula pendants
Our final gamer gift really has the ‘oooh pretty!’ effect. It’s a great choice for fans of sci-fi games like EVE Online, No Man’s Sky, and Starfield, so they can wear their love of the stars around their necks. As recommended by Philip:
“These pendants make the perfect gift for space game enthusiasts. Be mesmerised by the wonders that await you in space!”
Insert ‘out of this world’ joke here.
We hope these gift ideas were helpful! Let us know in the comments if you have any other ideas. I’ll read them while I force down my cold coffee.
