So we started a new DnD campaign and my DM decided because my "backstory was awful" to start the entire affair with me being this....
How rude is this xD

unpaid bar tab is a severe crime! Could be DOA
Apparently, I even burned the inn to the ground...
on the other hand, its a great starter, imagine prison break quest, there is always a way to counter DMs with unpredictable behavior
Bahaha this is great! I DM'd a campaign where a party member claimed amnesia to get out of putting together a backstory. He wouldn't even think up a surname. I ended up creating one for him alongside an outrageously complex backstory which included being attacked by a different interdimensional clone of himself every session.
After drip-feeding him clues for two years, I led him to a cemetery full of the graves of his own character. The big reveal was that his character name/surname was an anagram of his RL name, a being known as 'The Original' who through sheer laziness had accidentally split his soul into a thousand shards. The last soul-shard clone left alive would reinhabit the body of The Original.
I could write another dozen paragraphs explaining in it all, but the moral of the story is: write a backstory your DM approves of or risk the consequences.
I love the site I link to below as a way of coming up with a basic backstory! Language warning.
