GameCube was my first console after the PSX and it will always be the GOAT because its controller doesn't cause me physical pain lol

I would love to get my hands on one sometime in the future! I never had one! I Remeber my mate did and how small the discs were, so cool! What games would you recommend!?

Horror and Cats's avatar

I think the one exclusive you simply MUST play if you haven't had a GC before is Metroid Prime. What a phenomenal game!

MURRRAAAAY's avatar

is that the same game that just got a switch remaster?

Horror and Cats's avatar

According to Google, yes lol

Edit: I don't have a Switch so I had to search it

MURRRAAAAY's avatar

awesome! I have played neither lol

Horror and Cats's avatar

Well I'm sure either way you play it will give you the full experience... but that GC controller? Yeeeeee boooiiii

Smash Bros Melee, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess - specifically to use them with the GC controller for the best experience :D

I'd skip the GameCube just because the Wii has complete backwards compatibility and even has GC ports on the top of the console so unless you really want to use the GBA adaptor to play games on the big screen or like the aesthetic there really isn't any reason shelling out retro prices for that console

Friday is meant to be a nice, chill end to the week...not stick us with impossible decisions! 😆

MURRRAAAAY's avatar

haha do it! Pick one! lol

Horror and Cats's avatar

Being REAL between specifically these two, I'd go PS2. The exclusives-standpoint was too strong to ignore in that generation haha

I think Master Chief might have something to say about that!

To be fair, PS2 (and PS1) has so many of my favourite games!

The PS2! It looked good (except when those grooves got all dusty) and I'm totally biased because it simply was the console I had back then but man I loved that thing - used it until it pretty much melted. Sadly not exaggerating, pretty sure one corner of it melted until it stopped working.

My best friend and I played Star Wars Battlefront until the disk just stopped working. We got some wild glitches and then just nada haha. That was on the PS2 pictured above, but I never had any issues like that on my PS2 slim. I genuinely still have and use it. My niece loves playing Burnout 3 when she visits

Definitely the PS2 for me. That console could have only had Rockstar making games for it and it would still be one of my favourite consoles of all time, it's a shame that they're nowhere near as prolific anymore.

Your story about the Wii is really nice (apart from the being hospitalised bit!) and a testament to how accessible that console was. I don't personally hold it in that high regard, though, and really regretted choosing it over a 360, even if I did like the Miis and how it presented itself. I did think RE4 was really great on it, though.

Horror and Cats's avatar

It's a point of pride for me owning every version of RE4 including the Wii... despite the fact I don't own a Wii lol

GameCube all day long. I worked at a Game store back in 2003 and whilst my colleagues all tried to get everyone to buy a PS2 or Xbox complete with Medal of Honor or whatever was bundled with it- even when they were buying it for their 5 year old daughter - I put people onto the GameCube.

I have such an affinity for that console and it's controller is still my favourite controller ever.

Sure it may not have had the best game library but it's a joy of a console and I wouldn't rescue damaged ones and fix them up if I didn't adore it!

Makster's avatar

I think I read somewhere that the gamecube controller is the most ergonomic controller there was. It definitely feels like it but the asymmetric button design does put a lot of people off.

I had them all at some point in time - but as I have to choose now...

PS2 - Final Fantasy X

Makster's avatar

I remember being given this choice (minus the wii) for my 13th birthday and growing up with a N64 and SNES I had to choose GameCube (much to my father's chagrin as he wanted a DVD player haha).

With wiser eyes I think I'd have to go for the PS2 as well. Despite my nostalgia and love for GameCube library (Zelda, Mario Sunshine, Smash - of course!, Metroid, Animal Crossing), I think PS2 was the superior system with backwards compatibility for all PSX games, a DVD, and one of the most varied gaming catalogues! Yeah, there's a reason it was and still is the best selling gaming console
