I'm simple; I think as far as hours played, Guitar Hero 3 takes the cake. But, the original Rock Band was a close second because of the drums.

Ditto. I think GH3 was the pinnacle of the plastic controller rhythm games hype. I think by that point it may have sold out having Slash and Tom Morello so didn't review as well critically but mainstream wise it's probably have the most staying power - having Through the Fire and the Flames as the last song is pretty iconic

I was SO into RATM and Audioslave when GH3 came out so having Morello was like, a fangirl moment for me haha

I'm going to be contrarian and say DJ Hero. Sadly it did not get the same amount of praise as the guitar but underneath its kinda wacky controller it was actually a really fun and unique game. DJ Hero 2 definitely has better mixes (though you miss out on the star power of Daft Punk, DJ Jazzy Jeff, or Grandmaster Flash).

Other than that it's gotta be The Beatles Rock Band as that game got me falling in love with the fab four and their songs.

I actually dug up my ancient PS3 along with the plastic peripherals so playing through these games with my partner has been a hoot and a half. Though her perfect rhythm game is Just Dance. The amount of editions she has in her collection takes up a whole shelf in our gaming collection

I have an extremely soft spot for PaRappa the Rapper. The songs are great, and writing is genuinely funny. I also really like that it has a completely arcane freestyling mechanic
