Remaster is basically just a fancy way of saying port nowadays. Just marketing and tweaking the graphics.
But I don't have any issues with a re-release or a remaster if it allows sale of a game onto the current consoles. It helps developers, publishers, and companies gain a little bit more capital to reinvest in newer projects. If consoles were backwards compatible, there is a less inclination for these remasters
Yeah was just about to say that if only we had full backwards compatibility that would be awesome
I agree! A bit of upscaling and performance optimisation is not a remaster. They usually spin about 'no load screens' or minimal load times, which is great n all but that does not make a game a remaster.
Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time on Unreal5 engine would be amazing!
Aww heck yeah! I’m hoping for something like that on switch 2
I doubt they see remasters on any new hardware unless Nintendo wants to promote a new way of playing/ system.
N64 games got the DS off to a good start with the Mario 64 remake
Same with the 3DS as OoT and MM, and Star Fox were used to promote the 3D aspect from Nintendo's first venture into 3D after Mario 64.
Paper Mario+ Mario RPG got some more love on the Switch though so there are exceptions but I really doubt the premiere titles would get full reworks. Mario 64 was also released on switch as part of a mario collection too.
I also think that games are better on the native hardware
I think they call it a remaster if the make it available for a newer gen console, because they tweak the graphics a little, but the game is pretty much identical in everything else to the original. Probably remaster is shorter and better sounding than "PS4 compatible" or something like that.
I think Playstation and related studios could make a hella lot of money if they constantly worked on making PS3 and PS2 games available on PS4/5. Even is it wasn't physical backwards compatibility, but digital. While I'm not fan of losing the physical media either, it would be understandable for these old games to go digital as you can't really expect a 20 year old disk to work without issues.
Probably there's lots of technical difficulties to make the new gen consoles backwards compatible, but why can't they make these games available as streaming? I don't pay for any game streaming services, but if I could suddenly play my PS2 favourites or FFXIII streamed on my PS5 I would totally sign up for it.
REMASTERS ARE MY LAST HOPE
l’m a ATARI 1600 Generation player and l saw the vídeo game world chance and evolutionate
and 10 years for a remaster sounds normal in the 90’s but today 3 or 5 years is ok because generations, grafics mistakes corrected or to improve somes upgrades
I’m still waiting for a Aerosmith REVOLUTION X arcade remaster or a new MICHAEL JACCKSON’S EXPERIENCE 😢
plus hundreds games that need urgently a remaster o remake
God bless you all 🤗
Haha I have a sealed copy of Michael Jackson experience for Kinect which I never opened lol am I missing out!?
Is a very nice Game
I agree, and older then that for a remake. Having two different versions of the last of us and tlou part 2 is just ridiculous. There have also been a few "remasters" that have changed nothing and are just a rerelease such as Kingdoms of Amalur re reckoning. Same visuals, same glitches, no improvements.
I feel the videogame industry needs a govening body to impose rules to what a remaster, remake and re releases need to have inorder to be released (along with many other rules for mtx, review embargoes etc).
Remasters are welcome, but the tricky part is that new games aren't produced so that some can exist, and that ends up being very annoying
Sometimes, games with a good community of modders its all what we need. Check this out.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/f3lSsELbKCo?feature=oembedPersonally I don't feel there is a need if its just graphics improvements. If its a total overhaul of the mechanics, changes that make gameplay different or trying to redeem a badly done game I'm all for it.
