It's one thing to ban hate in your stream chats, but it's another to create content focused on powerful and meaningful subject matter. Do you try to stay socio-politically neutral? Or do you use your subject matter expertise to bring awareness to what is important to you?
Horror is a melting pot which is often pushing what is "acceptable." Mostly with regard to violence/taboos in order to tell as paralyzing a story as possible to make sickos like me happy. But, it also pushes bounds in meaningful ways.
You may not know this, but 12 Years a Slave has been classified by a few streaming sites as "horror" (combined with history/drama in most cases). That film changed my life as far as how I would react to and discuss racial inequality. Then, we had a renaissance of black horror with films like Get Out, His House, and Sorry to Bother You.
I've made a few videos now which cover sociopolitical matters, such as race and LGBTQ+ representation and story telling. They garner hate, yes. I won't post the comments because frankly they don't deserve a spotlight and they are likely nothing you haven't seen on the internet before (not to mention they wouldn't come within ten feet of being approved on Just About).
However, they garner much more--so much more love. Even when the comments are disproportionate, i.e. 12 hate comments and 1 supportive comment, the love speaks so much louder than the hate.
So, I suppose the thesis of this isn't so much a question, but a suggestion: make your stance. It's worth it.
